Moving to a new home

Dear Readers and Supporters,

AIM and Islam-Watch sites are being moved from our current host to a new environment. It is taking all my "spare" time to achieve the final objective and so posting of articles may be a bit "irregular" during this time of transition.

Hopefully it won't take too long.

The reason for the move is simple. We cannot be sure the next 5 minutes of  our online existence  because of our current host's "security policy".

While our host cannot be blamed for any major technical problems apart from the usual "overloading" of shared services (you get what you paid for), their attitude regarding attacks on our websites is  symptomatic to the global business policy these days, which is: to avoid "any" problems and to ditch the client rather than risk bad PR, legal action or any interruption of services due to an attack on their client (legal or illegal).

Examples:

1. Islam Watch was affected by a DDOS attack but our provider threatened to shut M.A.Khan's site down rather than to offer a solution.

E-mail from our host:

Your web hosting account has been deactivated, as of 09/15/2010. (reason: site causing performance problems)

This deactivation was due to a Terms of Service violation associated with your account. At sign-up, all users state that they have read through, understand, and agree to our terms. These terms are legal and binding.

It looks like your problems may be caused by a low level DDOS attack on your account. Right now it's coming from XXXXXXX we have issued a temporary block on that ip. you may want to look into adding your own blocks at the site level for your protection. If a more Serious DDOS occurs we may have to have you remove that site.

2. Islam Monitor was taken off line because Ethihad threatened our host with legal action.

Dear Sir,
We refer to your blog “ETIHAD or IDEATH” at (LINK which doesn't exist anymore).
Your blog contains numerous factual errors which are damaging to Etihad’s reputation and are therefore defamatory. In fact, the majority of the content of the blog is entirely inaccurate and many of the photos that you use are not even of Etihad aircraft.
We therefore request that you immediately either withdraw this blog or correct the contents to reflect the facts in this case. Otherwise, we reserve the right to immediately initiate legal proceedings against you for defamation and damage to Etihad’s business and reputation. ..........

...... The purpose of your blog is also racially motivated and makes several denigrating comments regarding Muslims and Islam and therefore violates the terms of service of the blog host. We have written separately to the host requesting that this blog is removed until these issues have been resolved.

Please confirm by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by close of play on 11 June 2010 that you have removed this blog.

Yours sincerely,

Jim Callaghan
EVP Legal Affairs and General Counsel
Etihad Airways

In the end we had to take off the article in question (a satirical article) in order to maintain our presence on line.

Let's hope that having our own server will make our lives a bit easier.

At least our provider won't complain about our sites being too busy as we'll have only two sites running on the server.

Islam-Watch has been already moved into a new "home" and AIM will go next.

Please remember that after domain name re-delegation there's always some confusion as different DNS servers still point to the old site until their cache is refreshed (sometimes it is a good idea to refresh your browser's cache by holding Ctrl button and clicking on refresh arrow in your browser).
