From The Monthly Journal of Political Correctness...

"When people hear the word 'sharia' they think only of the punishments, as if Musims are concerned with punishing people, chopping off hands and stoning people,"

. says the secretary of the Australian Islamic Mission, Siddiq Buckley.

"Of course, that is part of sharia but it's only a very small part of it." He hastens to add that that no one is suggesting the draconian hudud punishment laws be added to the raft of sharia regulations used in Australia." (p.23).

The remainder of the article is less offensive, cloaked in fog and proposing that Muslim women actually have increased 'rights' under sharia in addition to Australian family law. All roses! What about obligations as well as rights?

Dear Sally, let me suggest what Mr Buckley was really saying: "Of course I will say that, you Dhimmi. Chopping off hands and stoning people is OK under Sharia, but isn't part of Australian law. YET!"

Another article in the magazine speaks of the terribly misunderstood Cronulla Lebanese boys hijacking 40-100 cars from Lakemba and Punchbowl in retaliation to their beach treatment. By 'misunderstood' the author (Malcolm Knox) says the Lebanese boys simply were trying to emulate the Cronulla boys' machismo. 'Fitting in' if you like. Hmm. Soccer hooliganism? Sexual assaults? Assaulting surf lifesavers? An indiscriminate rampage through the suburbs? Assaults on onlookers? Protection of their convoy by the police?

It's true that the writer (Knox) was trying to write a fairly neutral account of the riots, now some five years ago. But the beachgoers of Cronulla were sick and tired of being harassed by these 'Australians of a Middle Eastern Appearance'...

When you pick up a droll magazine like The Monthly from wherever, please don't take their articles as pure commentary.

Editor's Note re: Just some of Muslim Women's Rights under Sharia:

Quran - 2:223 Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad).

Quran - 4:11 Allah chargeth you concerning (the provision for) your children: to the male the equivalent of the portion of two females, and if there be women more than two, then theirs is two-thirds of the inheritance, and if there be one (only) then the half.

Quran - :4:34  Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.

 Quran - 24:6 As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth;
