Postcard from Israel

I'm here in Israel, a land surrounded by jihadis who want to destroy this amazing, sometimes infuriating, but always fascinating country. Infuriating because with a vibrant mix of people from many lands, there are bound to be aspects which grate, such as the Israeli habit of asking strangers all sorts of personal questions and their penchant for rushing in rather than queuing. But this apart,Israel has a buzz and a liveliness that is palpable: Israelis love life and are determined to live it to the full, despite the formidable array of enemies surrounding them and often amongst them.

Nowhere is this joie de vivre more evident than in Tel Aviv, a bustling modern city built upon sand dunes in 1909, following the exodus of Jews from Jaffa, due to Arab massacres.

Walking down the streets, one is assailed by a variety of sensations. The cafes are full of people meeting friends, chatting or just grabbing a coffee. I made my way to the city's art gallery, only to encounter a large queue. Peering through the entrance to the gallery, it was clear that it was packed, and the guy in charge had to stop further entrants.

I was near the top of the group that were told they had to wait ten minutes before any more people would be allowed in.

Despite this, the queue of people determined they were going to get their culture fix that day steadily grew. But I was not prepared to wait, so decided to take a walk round the city instead.

Walking down Weitzmann Street, I came across a quiet square laid out with gardens and a central statue, so I decided to investigate. On a low wall surrounding the statue was a series of plaques, with information in Hebrew and English, so I was able to discover that this was a memorial to the Israeli athletes who were massacred in Munich. I remember the event well, and how the tragedy was compounded by the unwillingness or inability of the German host country to defend its guests against jihadis. Except that we didn't call them jihadis in those days, because most of us remained blissfully unaware of Islam's deadly intent.

For those readers too young to remember the events, Muslim Arab terrorists struck at the 1972 Olympics, resulting in the death of eleven Israeli athletes in what came to be known as the “Munich Massacre.” This was the first time that the Games had been held in Germany since Hitler had tried to use them to show the superiority of his Aryan race on the world stage. German president Gustav Heinemann welcomed the 1972 Olympics as “a milestone on the road to a new way of life with the aim of realizing peaceful coexistence among peoples.”  But the Palestinian Black September Organization had other ideas. Their demands included the release of 234 Arab and German prisoners held in Israel and West Germany. The Munich police commissioner, chief of Olympic security forces, and others worked with the Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir, for the release of the hostages, but Meir was adamant that the government of Israel would not negotiate with terrorists.

Threeof the surviving terrorists were captured, but shortly after a jet was high-jacked by terrorists demanding that the Munich killers be released. The Germans capitulated and the terrorists were let go, but following this incident, Israel launched an assassination campaign against the terrorists.

During the memorial service immediately following the massacre, the Olympic Flag was flown at half-mast, along with the flags of most of the other competing nations, at the order of German Chancellor Willy Brandt. Ten Arab nations demanded their flags remain at full-mast, which shamefully, Brandt accepted.

When the Olympic games were later held in Sydney, Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority urged Arab regimes to boycott the Games because there was a minute's silence at the start in memory of the 11 Israeli athletes murdered by his PLO terrorists.

In 1999, in his autobiography, 'From Jerusalem to Munich', Abu Daoud admitted his role in the massacre, but claimed his commandos never intended to harm the athletes, blaming their deaths on the German police and the intransigence of Golda Meir. Daoud also revealed that funds for Munich were provided by Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority since 2005. Though he claims he didn’t know what the money was being spent for, it is clear that Abbas was responsible for the financing of the Munich attack. But hang on, isn't Abbas the same moderate peace partner that the West are so assiduously courting?

Daoud also disclosed that Arafat saw the team off on the mission with the words “Allah protect you.” But of course we know terrorism has nothing to do with Islam!

So what lesson can we draw from these events? One obvious conclusion is that jihad is alive and well, is an intrinsic part of Islam, and that free countries ignore this at their peril. Andrew Bolt had an excellent piece on the Government's counter terrorism White Paper, pointing out the obvious, for which he will undoubtedly be roundly castigated.

He observed "If multiculturalism has made us so “resilient to the hate-based and divisive narratives” of jihadism, why does your White Paper admit that “numerous terrorist attacks” have had to be “thwarted” in Australia since 2001, and that we now have 20 people jailed on terrorism charges, 38 people charged after anti-terrorism operations (presumably all, or mostly, Muslims, too) and 40 more denied passports?

That’s sure a lot of strife from just 340,000 Australian Muslims...

We’ve actually got more Buddhists here, but when did you last hear of any plotting to blow us up?

“A ... shift apparent since 2004 has been the increase in the terrorist threat from people born or raised in Australia, who have become influenced by the violent jihadist message,” the White Paper warns. “A number of Australians are known to subscribe to this message, some of whom might be prepared to engage in violence. Many of these individuals were born in Australia and they come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.”

The Government admits the size of this growing terrorism threat depends on the size of our Muslim population.

Isn’t that then the debate we must have?

...we can’t keep out tomorrow’s terrorists just by bringing in only nice, hard-working Muslims from countries we trust. What of their later children, newly radicalised in mosques, universities or prisons?

Surely one way to minimise the danger, then, is to cut Muslim immigration, or at least freeze it until the jihadist wind blows out.

But on this issue the Government says nothing. Nor will it discuss dismantling multiculturalism, which at one stage had taxpayers funding the pro-bin Laden Islamic Youth Movement of Australia.

But why is multiculturalism sacred, when even this White Paper says one “pathway to violent extremism” is through “identity politics”?

Wise words from Bolt. But is anybody out there listening?
We must start the conversation about Islam.
Remember, you don't have to be an Israeli athlete to be in danger from jihad. Besides, all decent people should be appalled at this massacre of innocents, whether or not they are directly involved.

Let's hope Bolt's words act as a rallying cry.

History - Violent Jihad

Australians celebrate and revere Anzac Day on April 25th each year in remembrance of our brave soldiers who fought in two great world wars to secure our freedom. Every Australian identifies with the slogan “lest we forget” and in services held around the country people reflect on the battles and men who died to secure our freedom. Yet across the world in France, there is one remarkable battle which helped form the Europe we know today and allowed the development of civilization based on Judeo Christian principles. This one famous battle has become known as the battle of Tours and effectively stopped the Muslim advance into Europe. After the death of Mohammed in 632AD, Muslim armies exploded out of the Arabian peninsula to conquer much of the Middle East, expanding across north Africa. From there they crossed into Spain in 711AD and eventually controlled much of al-Andalus by 715AD. It was the victory at Tours by Charles Martel that stemmed the tide and eventually the Muslim marauders were expelled from Spain in 1492 when the last outpost at Granada fell to King Ferdinand of Spain.

Barbary Corsair
Somalian Islamic Pirates & Lessons from History
The dramatic rescue of the American cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips from the hands of Somalian Islamic pirates by the U.S. Navy—killing three pirates, holding him hostage at gun-point, through precision-targeting—warrants a review of the U.S. struggle with piracy and hostage-taking in North Africa, which ended two centuries ago.

Raiding trade-caravans and hostage-taking for extracting ransom in Islam was started by Prophet Muhammad. Having become powerful and secure after his relocation to Medina from Mecca in 622, Muhammad initiated Jihad or holy war in the form of raids of trade-caravans for earning livelihood for his community. In the first successful raid of a Meccan caravan at Nakhla in December 623, his brigands killed one of the attendants, took two of them captive, and acquired the caravan as “sacred” booty. The captives were ransomed to generate further revenue. Muhammad, later on, expanded this mode of Jihad to raiding non-Muslim communities around Arabia—for capturing their homes, properties and livestock, capturing their women and children as slaves often for ransoming and selling, and imposing extortional taxes—which sometimes involved mass-slaughter of the attacked victims.

Battle of Broken Hill Logo
The First Islamic Terrorist Attack on Australian Soil
On January 1, 1915 two Broken Hill men, both former camel drivers, armed themselves with rifles, an homemade flag bearing Islamic insignia and a large supply of ammunition and launched a surprise attack on the Picnic Train about 3 kilometres outside Broken Hill.

The train carried about 1200 Broken Hill residents to Silverton where a picnic to celebrate the new year was to take place.

The two Muslim men, Gool Mohamed originally a Pashtun tribesman from Afghanistan and Mullah Abdullah from what is known today as Pakistan, decided to wage jihad against Australian infidels after Australia and the Ottoman Empire officially joined the opposite sides in the WWI.

Jihad Galore and the Toledo Whore

Battle of Higueruela

Alhambra - GazelleHow often in conversation with a Muslim, do they quote Spain as the crowning achievement of Islam, where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in harmony for about 800 years?

And when you mention the killings and massacres, you are told that the Spanish Inquisition was much worse.
This is a misconception, since the Inquisition in Spain was responsible for only between 4,000 and 5,000 lives. [1]

Yet in 1066AD, in a single day, muslims murdered over 4,000 Jews because Vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela had risen to a position greater than them, and of course, this upset the Muslim sensitivities. [2]

History - Imperialism

Decisive Victory for the West

At this time of year, it is timely to remember one of the greatest victories of the west against the Islamic world. On the 7th October in 1571, Don Juan and the Holy League, led by Admiral Doria, defeated the larger Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto, saving Europe from the Turks and militant Islam. The Holy League was a coalition of different armies - of the Republic of Venice, the Papacy (under Pope Pius V), Spain (including Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and some others.

Jerusalem - Coat of ArmsWhy do Muslims insist that Jerusalem is their Holy City?
When Mohamed and his faithful followers moved from Mecca to Medina, they found themselves among three Jewish tribes/clans (BANU-L-NADIR, BANU KAINUKA and BANU KURAIZA)  which settled there some time after their expulsion from their homeland and also living there were  two Arab, pagan tribes.

Mohammed, who at this stage needed more followers, decided to win those tribes over and convert them to his newly invented religion.

Islam was yet not as fully developed as we know it today, and Mohammed was still having his sessions with Allah (the Medina period revelations).
