Not Without My DaughterMany of us will remember reading  about American woman Betty Mahmoody's escape from her abusive Iranian husband in Not Without My Daughter.  I wept copiously throughout the gripping film. Back then, I assumed it was a story about a culture clash rather than specifically to do with religion.

Since those innocent days, Islam has exploded onto the public arena, sometimes literally, and many of us have been on a steep learning curve to find out the theological underpinnings of  this great monotheistic religion.

I was reminded of Mahmoody when reading of a US woman imprisoned in an Arab home in Israel:
Former IDF commandos secretly entered a Palestinian Authority village  and rescued an American woman and her 2 1/2-year-old son from her Muslim husband, who had beaten and held her captive for three years.

The Arab met the woman during a visit to the US and enticed her to return with him to Israel and to the house where he lives with his first wife and several children, according to Voice of Israel government radio military reporter Carmella Menashe:
“She had no idea of where she was and was unable to escape."

The woman wore Muslim clothes, including a veil over her face, and the man threatened that she never would see her child again and that security agents would pick her up if she fled. She was Radio military reporter Carmella Menashekept under guard to make sure she could not reveal details of her ordeal on the telephone.

Her family unsuccessfully tried to get the U.S. Consulate in eastern Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority to help...

The commando explained that he gathered nine comrades:
“We carried out surveillance around the house, wore civilian clothes and staged the operation without any danger. We were unarmed, but part of the group was armed in a waiting vehicle in case there was trouble.”

Her husband had destroyed her American passport, and after she signed documents and obtained a new passport, she and her son were driven to Ben Gurion International Airport, where they boarded a plane to New York. (source)
Another heartwarming successful escape. But how many women are not so lucky, and remain locked away in some Islamic hellhole?

How naive the woman must have been to have followed him to Israel - but probably no more naive than the hordes of eager Christians and Jews who flock to interfaith meetings and gush about their lovely Muslim friends. Interfaith is used by Muslims to fool infidels into thinking Islam is benign and that any who disagree are Islamophobic and/or racist. Our school students are fed this propaganda, with groups such as JCMA going into schools spreading the deception that we share the same values. So it is not unreasonable to anticipate that many more women will be tricked into such dangerous Islamic liaisons.

Not Without My Daughter tells Betty Mahmoody's story:
"Betty is a devoted wife and mother living in the US with her Iranian husband, Moody.  Moody decides that he would like to take Betty and daughter, Mahtob, to visit relatives in his homeland. Betty is reluctant at first, but is assured by her husband that it will only be for two weeks. Once in Iran, Moody informs Betty that they will not be returning to the US.
Betty finds that although she has the legal right to leave the country, she cannot take her daughter because, in Iran, the father has legal custody. She refuses to leave without her daughter ... Trapped and unhappy, she is mistreated by both her husband and his family. She is beaten and locked inside her rooms for days. She must learn to prepare insect-infected food. And even worse, she must watch as her daughter is constantly scolded and punished at the school that she is required to attend. Betty and Mahtob must learn to survive in a country where she knows nothing of the language, customs, or laws.

Betty is watched at all times ...but she begins to find ways to search for help.  Eventually she is put in touch with a group of people who, for a fee, agrees to hide and smuggle them out of the country.  (source)

Wikipedia gives some (slightly biased) background to the film:

Phyllis Chesler The attack on the US Embassy in Iran in 1979 and its Iran hostage crisis led to a general hatred of Iranians in the US. One of its worst hotbeds is Michigan, where Iranian-American doctor Mahmoody constantly sees himself bullied and looked down upon by his racist colleagues, despite having lived in America for twenty years and marriage to Michigan-bred Betty Mahmoody... In 1984, Moody is fired from the hospital (which he does not tell his wife), and around the same time, learns that his his family wants him in Iran for a celebration. Betty is cautious at first, but Moody finally persuades his wife to come with him by swearing on the holy Qor'an that they will be back in two weeks.

On the day of their flight back Moody reveals that he has decided that they will be staying in Iran for good. Betty flies into a rage, but Moody physically assaults her and tells her firmly that they are not going back. Betty tells his father that Moody swore a lie on the Qor'an. He coldly replies that Allah will forgive Moody, and the relatives begin shouting at her for her lack of faith in Islam, and then at Moody for not disciplining her enough. Moody confiscates the passports and credit cards, cuts off Betty's access to the telephone and forbids her from leaving the house. She is also watched around the clock by Moody's relatives...Realising that her chances of escaping are limited, Betty begins to play the part of devout Muslim wife and expresses an interest in converting to Islam.

Caryn James of The New York Times states that the movie "exploits the stereotype of the demonic Iranian...it is an utter artistic failure, and its reliance on cultural stereotype is a major cause... Moody seems to be a pure product of his culture, a mysterious, misogynist Easterner...the film views fanaticism as the Iranian national character".

In response to Not Without My Daughter, a Finnish documentary, titled Without My Daughter was made about Mahmoody's  life in Iran and his attempts to contact his daughter again. Kouros, the producer, said that the aim  was to "show the lies in the American film and present the real story behind what turned into an acrimonious custody battle." (source)

Now we all know that things aren't always black and white, so the question arises, who to believe? Does Betty's story reflect the negative stereotyping of Muslims and was Moody the victim of US racism, leading to his dismissal as a doctor and ultimate decision to remain in Iran? Or is this a story of a loyal wife tricked into an Islamic hell?

There are some who see racism in everything: Maureen Dowd of the New York Times viewed Congressman Joe Wilson’s “you lie” outburst during Obama's  Presidential address as inspired by racism:
The normally nonchalant Barack Obama looked nonplussed, as Nancy Pelosi glowered behind. Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled “You lie!” at a president who didn’t. Karin's Story

But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy! (source)
Jimmy Carter, probably the most disgusting and racist President ever, was also quick to play the race card, saying:
“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African American.”
Gone are the days when we relied on facts and evidence on which to base our opinions: ideology and propaganda now trump facts. Nowhere is this more evident than in any reportage of the Middle East. Hence we have the absurd situation that Israel is accused of war crimes whenever it tries to defend its citizens against a genocidal enemy, whereas the Palestinians, and indeed Muslims everywhere, are always the victims. In the Islamic world, conspiracy theories about the US and Israel abound. What is alarming is that they are eagerly taken up as fact by academia and the media.

I can't help thinking of Cole Porter's song :
"The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today..."

How true these words ring in our morally inverted world.
Just one example. A thesis at the Hebrew University posited that the lack of rape among Israeli soldiers was racist!

"In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it can be seen that the lack of military rape merely strengthens the ethnic boundaries and clarifies the inter-ethnic differences - just as organized military rape would have done."

It began as just another exercise in political academic wackiness at the Hebrew University.

A graduate student claimed that the absence of any history of rapes of Arab women by Israeli Jewish soldiers proves that the Jews are racists and oppressors, people who do not even regard Arab women as sexually desirable. Such silliness is commonplace these days in academia, and ordinarily no one would have taken much notice. But the student and her “research” were then awarded a university honor for her impressive “discoveries.” That drew media attention.

...While University apologists dismissed complaints about the thesis as tendentious Tal Nitzan misrepresentation of it by a vast rightwing conspiracy, the rallying in defense of the thesis by the Hebrew University administration and some professors looks a whole lot like a leftwing conspiracy to cover up.

Nitzan’s “thesis” is largely a collection of tiresome feminist rhetoric and postmodernist gibberish, not all of it related to rape, is 206 pages long and tries to appear scholarly by including many long “citations” taken from the fever swamps of radical anthropology and leftist sociology.

“Symptomatic rape” for Nitzan is a reflection of the intolerant distancing of the “dominant” group (Jewish men) from the “oppressed” group (Arab men and women). But she then completely turns this “thought” on its head by arguing that abstaining from rape is just as inhumane and oppressive as “symptomatically raping,” and in fact replaces it, because it just serves to reinforce the intolerant attitudes towards Arabs by Jewish soldiers, who think of Arabs as so inferior and horrid that they do not even feel a drive to rape them.

The main significance of the thesis as an academic work is in the fact that it illustrates the total collapse of any semblance of academic standards at the Hebrew University. .. Atrociously written and constantly contradicting herself, Nitzan would have been laughed out of any university maintaining serious standards, EVEN if she had been writing about a valid and legitimate subject.

The possibility that Israeli soldiers do not rape Arab women because they are simply decent and honorable people, or under effective command by decent and honorable people, is automatically dismissed by Nitzan.

Meanwhile not a single feminist organization anywhere has spoken up about this thesis claiming that it is racist when Jews do not rape Arabs. This past spring a gang of Arabs terrorized the Galilee by raping Jewish women for political motives and was apprehended. Some of their victims were children. Nitzan and her professors have nothing to say about THAT wave of politically-motivated rapes. According to Nitzan’s own thesis logic, if a Jewish woman were to be raped by Hamas terrorists, this would pretty much prove that the Hamas are egalitarian and progressive seekers of peace and justice, not treating Jews as the inferior “Other.”  (source)
By this topsy turvy logic, the proliferation of rape by Islamic men shows just how non-racist they are:

In Australia, Norway, Sweden and other Western nations, there is a distinct race-based crime in motion being ignored by the diversity police: Islamic men are raping Western women for ethnic reasons. We know this because the rapists have openly declared their sectarian motivations.

When a number of teenage Australian girls were subjected to hours of sexual degradation during a Just the truthspate of gang rapes in Sydney that occurred between 1998 and 2002, the perpetrators of these assaults framed their rationale in ethnic terms. The young victims were informed that they were “sluts” and “Aussie pigs” while they were being hunted down and abused.

In Australia's New South Wales Supreme Court in December 2005, a visiting Pakistani rapist testified that his victims had no right to say no, because they were not wearing a headscarf.

In Norway and Sweden, journalist Fjordman warns of a rape epidemic. Police Inspector Gunnar Larsen stated that the steady increase of rape-cases and the link to ethnicity are clear, unmistakable trends. Two out of three prosecutions for rape in Oslo are immigrants with a non-Western background and 80 percent of the victims are Norwegian women.

In Sweden, according to translator for Jihad Watch, Ali Dashti, “Gang rapes, usually involving Muslim immigrant males and native Swedish girls, have become commonplace.” A few weeks ago she said, “Five Kurds brutally raped a 13-year-old Swedish girl.”

In France, Samira Bellil broke her silence – after enduring years of repeated gang rapes in one of the Muslim populated public housing projects – and wrote a book, In the hell of the tournantes, describing how gang rape is rampant in the banlieues

Western women are not the only victims in this epidemic. In Indonesia, in 1998, human rights groups documented the testimony of over 100 Chinese women who were gang raped during the riots that preceded the fall of President Suharto. Many of them were told: “You must be raped, because you are Chinese and non-Muslim.”

Christian Solidarity Worldwide reported that in April 2005, a 9-year-old Pakistani girl was raped, beaten with a cricket bat, hanged upside down from the ceiling, had spoonfuls of chillies poured into her mouth, and repeatedly bashed while handcuffed. Her Muslim neighbours told her they were taking revenge for the American bombing of Iraqi children and informed her they were doing it because she was an “infidel and a Christian.”

In Sudan – where Arab Muslims slaughter black Muslim and Christian Sudanese in an ongoing genocide – former Sudanese slave and now a human rights’ activist Simon Deng says he witnessed girls and women being raped and that the Arab regime of Khartoum sends its soldiers to the field to rape and murder. In other reports, women who are captured by government forces are asked; “Are you Christian or Muslim?” and those who answer Christian, are gang raped before having their breasts cut off.

Tegan Wagner This phenomenon of Islamic sexual violence against women should be treated as the urgent, violent, repressive epidemic it is. Instead, journalists, academics, and politicians ignore it, rationalize it, or ostracize those who dare discuss it.

In Australia, when journalist Paul Sheehan reported honestly on the Sydney gang rapes, he was called a racist and accused of stirring up anti-Muslim hatred.

Keysar Trad, vice-president of the Australian Lebanese Muslim Association said the gang rapes were a “heinous” crime but complained it was “rather unfair” that the ethnicity of the rapists had been reported.

Journalist Miranda Devine reported during the same rape trials that all reference to ethnicity had been deleted from the victim impact statement because the prosecutors wanted to negotiate a plea bargain.
So when Judge Megan Latham declared, “There is no evidence before me of any racial element in the commission of these offences,” everyone believed her.

In most French prosecutions, the Muslim rapists state that they do not believe they have committed a crime. And in a frightening parallel with the gang rapists in Australia, they claim the victim herself is to blame and accuse her of being a “slut” or a “whore.”

In early 2005, Norwegian newspapers reported that Oslo had recorded the highest ever number of rape cases in the previous twelve months. However the official statistics contained no data regarding “how immigrants were grossly over represented in rape cases”, and the media remain so strangely silent.

Oslo Professor of Anthropology, Unni Wikan, said Norwegian women must take responsibility for the fact that Muslim men find their manner of dress provocative. And since these men believe women are responsible for rape, she stated, the women must adapt to the multicultural society around them.

The BBC pulled a documentary scheduled for screening in 2004, after police in Britain warned it could increase racial tension.  The documentary was to show how Pakistani and other Muslim men sexually abused young, white English girls as young as 11.

The number of rapes committed by Muslim men against women in the last decade is so incredibly high that it cannot be viewed as anything other than culturally implicit behaviour. It is overtly reinforced and sanctioned by Islamic religious leaders who blame the victims and excuse the rapists.

In three decades of immigration into Western countries, Islam has caused social upheaval and havoc in every one of its host countries. No other immigration program has encountered the problems of non-assimilation and religious ambiguity. (source)
If we examine the pattern of Islam's entry into different countries, we can see that it has caused social upheaval and havoc everywhere, not just in Western countries.  For instance, Africa has been ruined by the onslaught of Islam, as indigenous cultures are destroyed, to be replaced by Arab supremacism. But in these morally relativistic times, we must never state the obvious: that Islam is the problem.

I look forward to the day when sanity is restored to the world, and we can state the truth about Islam without being accused of racism or Islamophobia.

And that day can't come soon enough!

History - Violent Jihad

Australians celebrate and revere Anzac Day on April 25th each year in remembrance of our brave soldiers who fought in two great world wars to secure our freedom. Every Australian identifies with the slogan “lest we forget” and in services held around the country people reflect on the battles and men who died to secure our freedom. Yet across the world in France, there is one remarkable battle which helped form the Europe we know today and allowed the development of civilization based on Judeo Christian principles. This one famous battle has become known as the battle of Tours and effectively stopped the Muslim advance into Europe. After the death of Mohammed in 632AD, Muslim armies exploded out of the Arabian peninsula to conquer much of the Middle East, expanding across north Africa. From there they crossed into Spain in 711AD and eventually controlled much of al-Andalus by 715AD. It was the victory at Tours by Charles Martel that stemmed the tide and eventually the Muslim marauders were expelled from Spain in 1492 when the last outpost at Granada fell to King Ferdinand of Spain.

Barbary Corsair
Somalian Islamic Pirates & Lessons from History

The dramatic rescue of the American cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips from the hands of Somalian Islamic pirates by the U.S. Navy—killing three pirates, holding him hostage at gun-point, through precision-targeting—warrants a review of the U.S. struggle with piracy and hostage-taking in North Africa, which ended two centuries ago.

Raiding trade-caravans and hostage-taking for extracting ransom in Islam was started by Prophet Muhammad. Having become powerful and secure after his relocation to Medina from Mecca in 622, Muhammad initiated Jihad or holy war in the form of raids of trade-caravans for earning livelihood for his community. In the first successful raid of a Meccan caravan at Nakhla in December 623, his brigands killed one of the attendants, took two of them captive, and acquired the caravan as “sacred” booty. The captives were ransomed to generate further revenue. Muhammad, later on, expanded this mode of Jihad to raiding non-Muslim communities around Arabia—for capturing their homes, properties and livestock, capturing their women and children as slaves often for ransoming and selling, and imposing extortional taxes—which sometimes involved mass-slaughter of the attacked victims.

The First Islamic Terrorist Attack on Australian Soil

On January 1, 1915 two Broken Hill men, both former camel drivers, armed themselves with rifles, an homemade flag bearing Islamic insignia and a large supply of ammunition and launched a surprise attack on the Picnic Train about 3 kilometres outside Broken Hill.

The train carried about 1200 Broken Hill residents to Silverton where a picnic to celebrate the new year was to take place.

The two Muslim men, Gool Mohamed originally a Pashtun tribesman from Afghanistan and Mullah Abdullah from what is known today as Pakistan, decided to wage jihad against Australian infidels after Australia and the Ottoman Empire officially joined the opposite sides in the WWI.

Alhambra - GazelleHow often in conversation with a Muslim, do they quote Spain as the crowning achievement of Islam, where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in harmony for about 800 years?

And when you mention the killings and massacres, you are told that the Spanish Inquisition was much worse.
This is a misconception, since the Inquisition in Spain was responsible for only between 4,000 and 5,000 lives. [1]

Yet in 1066AD, in a single day, muslims murdered over 4,000 Jews because Vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela had risen to a position greater than them, and of course, this upset the Muslim sensitivities. [2]

Decisive Victory for the West

At this time of year, it is timely to remember one of the greatest victories of the west against the Islamic world. On the 7th October in 1571, Don Juan and the Holy League, led by Admiral Doria, defeated the larger Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto, saving Europe from the Turks and militant Islam. The Holy League was a coalition of different armies - of the Republic of Venice, the Papacy (under Pope Pius V), Spain (including Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and some others.

Jerusalem - Coat of ArmsWhy do Muslims insist that Jerusalem is their Holy City?
When Mohamed and his faithful followers moved from Mecca to Medina, they found themselves among three Jewish tribes/clans (BANU-L-NADIR, BANU KAINUKA and BANU KURAIZA)  which settled there some time after their expulsion from their homeland and also living there were  two Arab, pagan tribes.

Mohammed, who at this stage needed more followers, decided to win those tribes over and convert them to his newly invented religion.

Islam was yet not as fully developed as we know it today, and Mohammed was still having his sessions with Allah (the Medina period revelations).
