August 2009 Dhimwit

E-mail Print PDF

Robert McClelland , Attorney-GeneralReaders will be pleased to know that this month's nominees are of the usual high standard.  So readers, it's your call: who will be our August Dhimwit?

1. Robert McClelland , Attorney-General

Rob has decided that, rather than tackling Islamic terrorism, which might cause offence to those supporting Islamic terrorists, better to change the way we talk about Islam:

THE phrase "war on terrorism" is set to be expunged from the official lexicon.
"Experience has shown that the language used to describe terrorism can be counter-productive,"  Robert McClelland said.
"Certain words have the potential to glorify terrorism and terrorists, while others can cause anxiety among Australians and create divisions within and between communities."
Of particular concern are phrases that specifically link religion to terrorism, such as "jihad" and "Islamic extremists". The "war on terrorism" as well as its more American-style cousin, "the war on terror."
Hass Dellal said people did not want a new wave of political correctness but wanted language to be used more carefully. Words such as "moderate Muslim", "jihadist", "Islamic extremists" and "Muslim terrorists" were too general.
"When people talk about Islamic terrorism they are putting the two things together.
The phrase "war on terrorism" was particularly pernicious,  because it had very quickly become "shorthand for Muslims". (source)

This attempt at repackaging facts is reminiscent of George Orwell's Big Brother, where The Ministry of Truth fabricates lies. Maybe, rather than us changing our language in the vain hope that it will lessen Islamic terror, those who commit terror in the name of Islam could change their behaviour, so we wouldn't have to use the word “terrorism” alongside “Islam”.

The curious phrase “ linguistic realignment” is nothing less than inverting the plain meaning of language.
We call them Islamic terrorists because that's exactly what they are – they are following the mandate of their holy book.
Maybe Rob could avoid “causing anxiety” by standing up to Islam and making it clear that sharia will never be part of Australian law.

Update: it seems that since the latest terror raids in Melbourne, this brave new linguistic experiment has been put on hold!

2. David Hicks and entourage

Davo an TerryMuch has been written about our very own jihadi, recently married to girlfriend Aloysia Brooks by a Uniting Church pastor in Sydney.
Hicks was captured in Afghanistan in late 2001, gave up his Islamic beliefs during his stint at Gitmo, and
eventually pleaded guilty to providing material support to al-Qaeda as a Taliban soldier. He served nine months in prison in Adelaide before being released in December 2007. (reference)

His wife studied at the University of Sydney's Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies and writes poetry on human rights issues, making her a perfect fellow traveller for Dhimwit Dave. (reference)

Hicks himself is no slouch at poetry, as evidenced by a letter he wrote to his former flatmate Louise Fletcher in 2006:
“LISTEN, have you got any friends I can f--- when I get home? They have to be good-looking and I prefer big tits as well. Well, send their photos with the letters so I can check them out ... “
Poetic he may be, but Hicks  joined a  terrorist organisation, and wished to kill infidels and help destroy our civilisation.

“…while fighting with Lashkar-e-Toiba, I got to fire hundreds of rounds into Indian-administered Kashmir” (source)
But who cares about such treachery when there's $$$s to be made from his celebrity status! Imre Salusinzky reviewed The President v David Hicks, which aired on SBS:
What is most disturbing is just where this film stands on Hicks's virulent anti-Semitism.
In his letters to his family, Hicks tells them his training in Pakistan and Afghanistan is designed to ensure "the Western-Jewish domination is finished, so we live under Muslim law again". He denounces the plots of the Jews to divide Muslims and make them think poorly of Osama bin Laden.
After reading aloud a letter from his son warning him to ignore "the Jews' propaganda war machine", Terry Hicks smiles affectionately and says: "I think David's told me off in his way there."
Given that this film is unashamedly advocating for David Hicks, and that Levy has said it exists to counter the "demonisation" of Hicks, shouldn't the film-maker have given us a hint about what he thinks of these racist comments, or pressed Terry Hicks to do so? Once upon a time, we would not have wondered where those on the Left stood on such a question. (source)

Besides training with Al Qaeda, he visited bin Laden about 20 times,  so he was no innocent abroad. (Reference)

But this didn't stop Dhimwit Leunig speaking in his defence in court:
There was an outside chance that he just may have, possibly, harmed American soldiers if he had the opportunity and happened to feel like it at the time, perhaps. Or so they say.
They put him in a concentration camp for the crime of that possibility, and kept him there, a million miles from home for five terrible years without trial.
When they had finished with him - when they had crushed and tormented him enough and weakened him sufficiently and driven him half-mad, and displayed him to the world as an example - they tied his hands behind his back and ordered him to defend himself against all their might and final fury.
How may a man explain his innocence to a culture hell-bent on war and conquest? How does a broken heart stand against the vindictive and merciless onslaught of a militarised state tangled in its blinding web of anger, hypocrisy and paranoia? (source)

Well, it takes a Dhimwit to recognise another Dhimwit!

3. NSW Department of Education and Training (DET)

DEPA contact within DET who tried to access sites like AIM and FFI that critique Islam discovered the sites were  had been banned, so students and teachers were unable to learn the truth about Islam.

However, disinformation is readily available. For instance, a 2004 pamphlet publicised by DET and supported by then Minister for Education, Andrew Refschauge, says there are core values 'common to a range of secular and religious world views'. Among these are Integrity, Excellence, Respect, Responsibility, Co-operation, Participation, Care , Fairness and Democracy.

Students would be misled into assuming that Islam shared these core values, as they are not allowed to access the facts.

DET also propagates the idea of multifaith 'dialogue' and provides Islamic prayer facilities in some TAFE buildings,  facilities denied to other religious groups.

It has helped develop a website, Making Multicultural Australia, to indoctrinate students, parents and teachers in the joys of cultural diversity.

“A generation of students growing up in the 21st century is daily confronted with issues of cultural diversity, conflict and tolerance. These educational resources will help bring these issues into the classroom in a structured way, actively informing and promoting community harmony amongst young people.” (source)
We can guarantee that with DET's help, cultural diversity will be shoved down our throats, as we are forced to tolerate intolerable Islam.

The website helps “unpack” certain “hot” words, such as “Terrorist...”
A terrorist is a person who engages in the systematic use of violence and intimidation for the purpose of achieving a political, religious, social or economic goal.
In the twenty first century terrorism has been associated with, for example, the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York in 2001, the bombing of tourist venues in Bali in 2002, the suicide bombings in Morocco and Saudi Arabia in 2003 and the siege of a school in Beslan, Russia in 2004.

What makes it hot?
The heat in the word comes from the different perspectives that people have in relation to certain actions.
For example, governments that support the use of violence against civilians will tend to dissociate themselves from the term “terrorist” and will instead use neutral or positive terms to describe combatants they approve of, such as freedom fighters, patriots, militants or activists.
Terrorists throughout history have argued that the use of peaceful means to resolve or advance issues has been unsuccessful and therefore the only effective options to bring about justice are those that use terror. Indeed, some people considered to be supporters of terrorist actions at some point in their lives have gone on to become dedicated peace activists and respected national leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and Xanana Gusmao. (source)

You have to hand it to DET. To discuss terrorism without once mentioning Islam is a significant acheivement!

4. John Pilger

Born in Bondi, Sydney, he moved to England in the 60's, where he's been ever since.
Ultra leftist, Arabist and notorious Anti Zionist ( he wrote the forward to Loewenstein’s anti-Israel Book),Pilger
In “Holocaust denied: the lying silence of those who know” (8 Jan 2009  New Statesman), Pilger accused Israel of Nazi-like behaviour:

the horror now raining on Gaza has little to do with Hamas or, absurdly, “Israel’s right to exist”. They know the opposite to be true: that Palestine’s right to exist was cancelled 61 years ago and the expulsion and, if necessary, extinction of the indigenous people was planned and executed by the founders of Israel.

In Gaza, the enforced starvation and denial of humanitarian aid...the systematic destruction of infrastructure and the killing and maiming of the civilian population, 50 per cent of whom are children, meet the international standard of the Genocide Convention.

Behind this sordid game is the “Dagan Plan”... a “solution” that has seen the imprisonment of Palestinians behind a ghetto wall snaking across the West Bank and in Gaza, effectively a concentration camp. .. a mostly supine western media says Hamas is a terrorist organisation devoted to Israel’s destruction and to “blame” for the massacres and siege of its own people... In fact, Hamas’s real threat is its example as the Arab world’s only democratically elected government. (source)
Despite (or maybe because of) his anti-Western rhetoric, Pilger  won the 2009 Sydney Peace Prize

Sydney Peace Foundation director Professor Stuart Rees said:
"His commitment to uncovering human rights abuses shines through his numerous books, films and articles.."
The citation on the award says: "For work as an author, filmmaker and journalist as well as for courage as a foreign and war correspondent in enabling the voices of the powerless to be heard.
"For commitment to peace with justice by exposing and holding governments to account for human rights abuses and for fearless challenges to censorship in any form." (source)
Pilger claims that Western support for Israel -- coupled with Western disregard for the welfare of Arab and Muslim nations -- is mostly to blame for the persistent unrest in the Middle East and blames the West for the rise of Islamic terrorism:
"The bombs of 7 July were Blair's bombs. Blair brought home to this country his and George W Bush's illegal, unprovoked and blood-soaked adventure in the Middle East. Were it not for his epic irresponsibility, the Londoners who died in the Tube and on the No 30 bus almost certainly would be alive today."
When asked, in an interview with the ABC in 2004, if he approved of "the killing of American, British or Australian troops" by their enemies in Iraq. "Well yes, they're legitimate targets," he replied."They're illegally occupying a country." (source)
Keith Windschuttle  in “The Adversary Culture:The perverse anti-Westernism of the cultural elite” tells how:

Within days of the 9/11 terrorist assault, a number of influential Western intellectuals responded in ways that, morally and symbolically, were no different to the celebrations of the crowds on the streets of Palestine and Islamabad. Perhaps the worst single response was made by an Australian... John Pilger said the real terrorists were not Muslim radicals but the Americans themselves.:
“If the attacks on America have their source in the Islamic world, who can be surprised? … Far from being the terrorists of the world, the Islamic peoples have been its victims — that is, the victims of American fundamentalism, whose power, in all its forms — military, strategic and economic — is the greatest source of terrorism on earth. “ (source)
Pilger is unremitting in his efforts to spread hatred of Western democracy and support for Islamic totalitarianism.

Who will be August Dhimwit? Only you, dear readers, can decide!

History - Violent Jihad

Australians celebrate and revere Anzac Day on April 25th each year in remembrance of our brave soldiers who fought in two great world wars to secure our freedom. Every Australian identifies with the slogan “lest we forget” and in services held around the country people reflect on the battles and men who died to secure our freedom. Yet across the world in France, there is one remarkable battle which helped form the Europe we know today and allowed the development of civilization based on Judeo Christian principles. This one famous battle has become known as the battle of Tours and effectively stopped the Muslim advance into Europe. After the death of Mohammed in 632AD, Muslim armies exploded out of the Arabian peninsula to conquer much of the Middle East, expanding across north Africa. From there they crossed into Spain in 711AD and eventually controlled much of al-Andalus by 715AD. It was the victory at Tours by Charles Martel that stemmed the tide and eventually the Muslim marauders were expelled from Spain in 1492 when the last outpost at Granada fell to King Ferdinand of Spain.

Perhaps some readers might be interested to know that January 28 is considered a feast day among Catholics – actually 2 feast days are celebrated on the same day – one is of ST Thomas Aquinas, the great medieval theologian and philosopher who adapted Aristotle to the western Judeo-Christian worldview. . It is also the feast day of a lesser known person – St Peter Nolasco, the great ransomer of captives from the Muslims.

Barbary Corsair
Somalian Islamic Pirates & Lessons from History

The dramatic rescue of the American cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips from the hands of Somalian Islamic pirates by the U.S. Navy—killing three pirates, holding him hostage at gun-point, through precision-targeting—warrants a review of the U.S. struggle with piracy and hostage-taking in North Africa, which ended two centuries ago.

Raiding trade-caravans and hostage-taking for extracting ransom in Islam was started by Prophet Muhammad. Having become powerful and secure after his relocation to Medina from Mecca in 622, Muhammad initiated Jihad or holy war in the form of raids of trade-caravans for earning livelihood for his community. In the first successful raid of a Meccan caravan at Nakhla in December 623, his brigands killed one of the attendants, took two of them captive, and acquired the caravan as “sacred” booty. The captives were ransomed to generate further revenue. Muhammad, later on, expanded this mode of Jihad to raiding non-Muslim communities around Arabia—for capturing their homes, properties and livestock, capturing their women and children as slaves often for ransoming and selling, and imposing extortional taxes—which sometimes involved mass-slaughter of the attacked victims.

Battle of Broken Hill Logo

The First Islamic Terrorist Attack on Australian Soil

On January 1, 1915 two Broken Hill men, both former camel drivers, armed themselves with rifles, an homemade flag bearing Islamic insignia and a large supply of ammunition and launched a surprise attack on the Picnic Train about 3 kilometres outside Broken Hill.

The train carried about 1200 Broken Hill residents to Silverton where a picnic to celebrate the new year was to take place.

The two Muslim men, Gool Mohamed originally a Pashtun tribesman from Afghanistan and Mullah Abdullah from what is known today as Pakistan, decided to wage jihad against Australian infidels after Australia and the Ottoman Empire officially joined the opposite sides in the WWI.

Alhambra - GazelleHow often in conversation with a Muslim, do they quote Spain as the crowning achievement of Islam, where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in harmony for about 800 years?

And when you mention the killings and massacres, you are told that the Spanish Inquisition was much worse.
This is a misconception, since the Inquisition in Spain was responsible for only between 4,000 and 5,000 lives. [1]

Yet in 1066AD, in a single day, muslims murdered over 4,000 Jews because Vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela had risen to a position greater than them, and of course, this upset the Muslim sensitivities. [2]

History - Imperialism

Decisive Victory for the West

At this time of year, it is timely to remember one of the greatest victories of the west against the Islamic world. On the 7th October in 1571, Don Juan and the Holy League, led by Admiral Doria, defeated the larger Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto, saving Europe from the Turks and militant Islam. The Holy League was a coalition of different armies - of the Republic of Venice, the Papacy (under Pope Pius V), Spain (including Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and some others.

Jerusalem - Coat of ArmsWhy do Muslims insist that Jerusalem is their Holy City?
When Mohamed and his faithful followers moved from Mecca to Medina, they found themselves among three Jewish tribes/clans (BANU-L-NADIR, BANU KAINUKA and BANU KURAIZA)  which settled there some time after their expulsion from their homeland and also living there were  two Arab, pagan tribes.

Mohammed, who at this stage needed more followers, decided to win those tribes over and convert them to his newly invented religion.

Islam was yet not as fully developed as we know it today, and Mohammed was still having his sessions with Allah (the Medina period revelations).
