Man's marriage to eight-year-old girl ruled legal

E-mail Print PDF
Judge Ubeidi If you use “Yahoo” to access the net, then no doubt you will have seen this article which was scrolling by this (Tuesday) morning. You might have had your attention grabbed by the headline but, perhaps… not every Australian?
Incredibly, headlines such as this are fast becoming “ho-hum”, so that they no longer seem to have the power to shock us and they pass like any other rolling, ticker-tape headline; just one more horror and insanity in an increasingly mad world?

We have become so used to hearing of these Islamic abominations, to the point where we have become blasé. Note: That’s not a question, not even rhetorical, it’s a fact. As a nation and a people, we are brain and soul-dead to it all. Worse, we appear to accept this sort of evil, and grant it normalcy and legitimacy. In the jargon of today’s world, it’s only “a cultural practice”, after all. I bet some people even think it adds “local flavour” to their Saudi stop-over, before heading off to Dubai to pick the bones dry. Cool traveller’s tales from the Gulf: “Well, I SAW a public amputation”! That tops most peoples Giza/Camel/Souk/Belly Dancer stories!

Certainly, the indifference of our political and legislative leaders seems to indicate that Australia approves of this behaviour. It won’t even raise an eyebrow in Canberra and you can take that to the petro-dollar bank!

Kevin Rudd won’t even know it has happened or is happening. La la la la…nii how….working families…ear wax dessert…. the sky is falling, Peremptorily, Perfidiously and Precipitously!! Hey Kev…. Your arse is on fire. (reference)

Is your local “Green” Council going to get antsy and start a protest? They usually do where Israel is concerned, so why the reticence - Marrickville Council! - to tackle this issue? You have Arabs in inner Sydney who can tell you all about the horrors of life in Saudi Arabia…that’s why they are in your electorates – they escaped!

Is your local church mounting a campaign to end this barbarous behaviour? No…didn’t think so. Building fund going well, though?

I call on SBS to run some documentaries on the realities of life in Saudi Arabia. Do it AFTER you get funding from Etihad or Emirates “airlines”, and Robert is your father’s brother! No accountability, just the way you like it.

ABC – I have a suggestion for the use of our combined readership’s  8 cents a day. Run some Pat Condell videos! He won’t charge, I’m sure and it would beat QandA hands down for veracity, reality and relevance.

A young Muslim bride from Yemen Anyway, back to the headlines. If you did notice this particular headline, I can almost guarantee your first reaction was…..”Islam”! After all, who else?? One sentence in and you hit the magic word “Saudi Arabia” and suddenly everything was clear, yeah?

Is it that, somehow, we expect this to happen under the Crescent Moon, or the sword of Allah that flies on the Saudi flag? Even though we find it repugnant personally, corporately and nationally, do we ignore it because it is a matter for a Sovereign nation? Or have we become so desensitised to the horrors of the Islamic world that we are beyond awareness, beyond compassion and conscience, beyond action? After all, we often pass over abuse and excess in other nations – those we conveniently dub “Third World” - with the glib sentiment that “it’s a growing Democracy”, assuaging our consciences and allowing us to buy their rice and coconut extract. Tourism numbers are NOT going to go down, even though 50,000 rioters are running amok in Thailand (reference), so I suggest the evidence is in – we don’t care if it does not directly affect us. So, pity the poor 8 year old girls of Saudi Arabia; no help coming from Australia. And this from a nation with a proud history of intervention in the curbing and curtailing of human rights abuses world-wide. I can look back to the people power movement of the 1970’s, which saw a complete boycott of the apartheid South African regime, with some pride. I guess it was pretty safe though, and something all Lefties would enjoy, because there was no actual threat to any Australians and Sth Africa didn’t have any oil…. Midnight or otherwise.

Certainly, something has happened to the moral compass of the West, the Judeo-Christian Anglo-European world, when headlines such as this no longer drive our Government(s) – for example – to the greatest diplomatic and political efforts, anything humanely possible, to stop this disgusting regime once and for all, no? Despite the frequency and common-ness of such headlines, and the ensuing dulling of the mind such frequency causes, they are still of such an appalling nature that we should be shocked to our core by them. The overused word “appal” is never more appropriate then when stories such as this appear.

It is oxymoronic to refer to Muslim Human Rights. Equally, it is axiomatic to talk of Islamic Human Rights abuse, but I guess the price is too high for us to act as we should… and used to. How can this nation hold its head up? Hs it come to the point where Australia will put up with anything and so, stands for nothing? Under the “leadership” we have endured for the last decade or three, it would seem so.

“Man's marriage to eight-year-old girl ruled legal”.
A judge has refused to overturn a ruling that declared the arranged marriage of an eight-year-old girl to a 47-year-old man legal. "A girl aged 10 or 12 can be married," he told a local newspaper. "Those who think she's too young are wrong and they are being unfair to her. We should know that Sharia law has not brought injustice to women."
Perhaps this is just an isolated case, no?

For most readers, their radar was twitching as soon as the headline rolled across the screen and it came as no shock to learn this abomination is from Saudi Arabia. After all, finding the epicentre of such barbarities is really only a matter of a more precise geographic location in a region utterly synonymous with abuses such as this. Somewhere between the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi and the sub-Saharan African world of Mohamed; grab a pin and stick it in the map of the Ummah, and you won’t be wanting for examples of similar for very long. Yet, in that desert of inhumanity, the pin seems to find its way unerringly to Saudi Arabia, time after time.

“But, surely, this is just an abomination of normal Muslim practice? Surely this is not a representation of the conventional and customary in Arab Muslim lands?” – I hear Mr Everyman say? The answer is – this is no anomaly. This is mainstream law – The Sharia – in practice. Saudi Arabia is completely governed by the Sharia. No mistake has been made. The problem lies WITH US! We seem unable to comprehend, to grasp, that THIS IS SAUDI BEST PRACTICE in action!

As I wrote earlier, we often pass over evidence of inappropriate behaviour by many sovereign nations, under any number of pretexts, most of which come from the field of “emerging nation”, “fledgling Democracy”, or “Third World issues” and the “sovereignty” of those nations.

For example, “Australia leads sanction call as Fiji sacks judiciary” - (reference)

Legal issues in another country? Rudd to the rescue…as long as it’s a banana republic, not an oil producing mega-power-wielding nation?

However, this is not just any country, no tin-pot banana Republic like Burma, no theatre of the absurd like Nth Korea. This is Saudi Arabia; Quite possibly the richest nation on Earth, a power in every sphere of 21st Century world life, through its massive oil reserves and the machinations of OPEC and a central role player in the United Nations Security Council. Saudi Arabia would defy any attempt to classify it is “Third World”, we can be assured!Uncle with his nice (the young bride)

It’s positioning in the United Nations reinforces the reality that this is no “Third World” country, but a nation with credentials and bona fides beyond question. At least, no-one who should be doing so is questioning them.

At the U.N, Saudi Arabia sits on the following Councils and Committees:
At the Security Council:
  • Peace-building Commission (don’t laugh)
  • Counter-Terrorism Committee (don’t laugh… or cry)
In the Economic and Social Council:
  • Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
In the General Assembly:
(As members of the UN General Assembly Plenary Council they sit on 6 Committees)
  • Disarmament and International Security Committee
  • Economic and Financial Committee
  • Social, Humanitarian and Culture Committee
  • Special Political and Decolonization Committee
  • Administrative and Budgetary Committee
  • Legal Committee
Yes, the U.N. “Legal Committee”!! So, obviously, if it’s a legal matter, we can turn to the Saudis with complete confidence! The Saudi judge, Sheikh Habib Habib, who ruled on the girl's marriage, need have no fear of being contradicted then? The situation for the young girl who can now be married off at age 8 is less secure but no less certain! She will have no recourse but to submit to the laws of Allah and, unless WE stand now, so too will we submit before Islam, if Saudi Arabia has a say in it. After all, that is their stayed intention. The restored Caliphate isn’t planned to be an Arabic Disneyland, folks!

Who are these beacons of modernity, that they sit on Committee and decide matters for all nations and people? What paragon of enlightenment and civilisation are they? What virtues do they possess, that we allow them to rule us, de facto?

They are not even a Democracy. They are far worse then many can imagine. Saudi Arabia is an absolute, feudal, theocratic Monarchy. It constantly asserts its grounds of legitimacy to be the Quran and the 7th Century habits of Mohamed. Not a word of Enlightenment or even Post-Enlightenment understanding is heard from them, now or ever will be in the future. It is the Sword of Allah from which ALL flows. In fact, Saudi Arabia is a WORLD LEADER in attempts to “de-Anglicise” the world – to rid the world of the cursed influence of the Christian Crusader. No worry to them that it was THAT culture which gave them their nation in the first place! Hospitals, disinfection, hygiene principles…soap and penicillin! What has Saudi Arabia contributed that nears the benefits of just these paltry examples? Oil….oil….oil….camel jockeys, white slaves, clitorotomies and other vaginal mutilations, public executions and amputations. Saudi ArThe House of Saudabia is on a par with Iran in calls for the utter and complete annihilation of the state of Israel. Yep….they contribute so much to the betterment of our world.

SAUDI ARABIA:
(Wikipedia) “The central institution of the Saudi Arabian government is the Saudi monarchy. The Basic Law of Government adopted in 1992 declared that Saudi Arabia is a monarchy ruled by the sons and grandsons of the first king, Abd Al Aziz Al Saud. It also claims that the Qur'an is the constitution of the country, which is governed on the basis of the Sharia (Islamic Law). According to The Economist's Democracy Index, the Saudi government is the ninth most authoritarian regime in the world.
There are no recognized political parties or national elections, except the local elections which were held in the year 2005 when participation was reserved for male citizens only.
The king's powers are theoretically limited within the bounds of Shari'a and other Saudi traditions. He also must retain a consensus of the Saudi royal family, religious leaders (ulema), and other important elements in Saudi society.
The Saudi government spreads Islam by funding construction of mosques and Qur'an schools around the world. The leading members of the royal family choose the king from among themselves with the subsequent approval of the ulema.
Legislation is by resolution of the Council of Ministers, ratified by royal decree, and must be compatible with the Shari'a.
A 150-member Consultative Assembly, appointed by the King, has limited legislative rights. Justice is administered according to the Shari'a by a system of religious courts whose judges are appointed by the king on the recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council, composed of twelve senior jurists. Independence of the judiciary is protected by law. The king acts as the highest court of appeal and has the power to pardon. Access to high officials (usually at a majlis; a public audience) and the right to petition them directly are well-established traditions.”
That’s the mild version and for my purposes…. It’s Saudi in a nutshell. Further research will only dismay!
I would ask you to compare THAT, with this:

NOT SAUDI ARABIA:
The term "Western culture" is used very broadly to refer to a heritage of social norms, ethical values, traditional customs, religious beliefs, political systems, and specific artifacts and technologies. Specifically, Western culture may imply:
  • a Graeco-Roman Classical and Renaissance cultural influence, concerning artistic, philosophic, literary, and legal themes and traditions, as well as a tradition of rationalism in various spheres of life, developed by Hellenistic philosophy, Scholasticism, Humanisms, the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment, and including, in political thought, widespread rational arguments in favour of free thought, human rights, equality and democratic values averse to despotism, irrationality and theocracy.
  • a Biblical-Christian cultural influence in spiritual thinking, customs and either ethic or moral traditions, around Post-Classical Era.
  • Central and Eastern European cultural influences concerning artistic, musical, folkloric, ethic and oral traditions, whose themes have been further developed by Romanticism.
The concept of Western culture is generally linked to the classical definition of the Western world. In this definition, Western culture is the set of literary, scientific, political, artistic and philosophical principles which set it apart from other civilizations. Much of this set of traditions and knowledge is collected in the Western canon.

The term has come to apply to countries whose history is strongly marked by Western European immigration or settlement, such as the Americas, and Australasia, and is not restricted to Western Europe.

Some tendencies that define modern Western societies are the existence of political pluralism, prominent subcultures or countercultures (such as New Age movements), increasing cultural syncretism resulting from globalization and human migration.”
Saudis rule the world
Against that, The Islamicly cursed Kingdom of the Sauds is a sorry state of affairs. To continue to run comparisons is pointless. It is quite evident that the Western world and Saudi Arabia ascribe to two very different codes of behaviour and treatment of people.
What remains are the all too simple questions, which appear to be far too hard for any Australian politician to answer  -
  • What the hell is that country doing, wielding such influence over us?
  • Why do our power-brokers and “leaders” not have the gumption to stand against the overtly obvious evil that is Saudi Arabia?
  • How can you bring such shame onto the people you “lead”?

We MUST distance ourselves, in every way possible, from the influence of that evil empire and protect our people from the ideology/religion that gives it it’s legitimacy – in their eyes – Islam and the Quran.

If Saudi Arabia is the shining example of what the Ummah is all about, then all free-thinking, civilised Australians should shun it. We must call on our leaders to lift this shame from us, by boycotting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, no matter what short term “cost” there may be. The spiritual and moral cost of doing otherwise is far too high a price to pay.

“Man's marriage to eight-year-old girl ruled legal”.
A judge has refused to overturn a ruling that declared the arranged marriage of an eight-year-old girl to a 47-year-old man legal.
The Saudi Arabian judge, Sheikh Habib Habib, ruled that the girl's marriage to a friend of her father's was legal and binding.
CNN reported the child wife could file for divorce once she reached puberty.
A relative of the girl told CNN the judge first refused to annul the marriage last year but reconsidered the case upon the girl's mother's appeal.
The mother's lawyer argued the girl's father had arranged the marriage with his "close friend" to pay off a monetary debt.
The relative said the girl's mother, who is divorced from the father, would continue to seek to overturn the marriage.
Zuhair Harithi from the Saudi Human Rights Commission told CNN child marriages in the country must be fought, saying they "violate international agreements that have been signed by Saudi Arabia and should not be allowed."
The issue of child marriage has been a hot topic in Saudi Arabia of late.
Rights groups have been petitioning the government to enact laws that would protect children while the kingdom's top cleric has said that it is OK for girls as young as 10 to wed.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, the kingdom's grand mufti, said last January there is nothing wrong with girls who are 15 or younger being married.
"A girl aged 10 or 12 can be married," he told a local newspaper.
"Those who think she's too young are wrong and they are being unfair to her.
"We should know that Sharia has not brought injustice to women."
An appeals court in Riyadh will reportedly consider the case again in a hearing next month.

History - Violent Jihad

Australians celebrate and revere Anzac Day on April 25th each year in remembrance of our brave soldiers who fought in two great world wars to secure our freedom. Every Australian identifies with the slogan “lest we forget” and in services held around the country people reflect on the battles and men who died to secure our freedom. Yet across the world in France, there is one remarkable battle which helped form the Europe we know today and allowed the development of civilization based on Judeo Christian principles. This one famous battle has become known as the battle of Tours and effectively stopped the Muslim advance into Europe. After the death of Mohammed in 632AD, Muslim armies exploded out of the Arabian peninsula to conquer much of the Middle East, expanding across north Africa. From there they crossed into Spain in 711AD and eventually controlled much of al-Andalus by 715AD. It was the victory at Tours by Charles Martel that stemmed the tide and eventually the Muslim marauders were expelled from Spain in 1492 when the last outpost at Granada fell to King Ferdinand of Spain.

Perhaps some readers might be interested to know that January 28 is considered a feast day among Catholics – actually 2 feast days are celebrated on the same day – one is of ST Thomas Aquinas, the great medieval theologian and philosopher who adapted Aristotle to the western Judeo-Christian worldview. . It is also the feast day of a lesser known person – St Peter Nolasco, the great ransomer of captives from the Muslims.

Barbary Corsair
Somalian Islamic Pirates & Lessons from History

The dramatic rescue of the American cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips from the hands of Somalian Islamic pirates by the U.S. Navy—killing three pirates, holding him hostage at gun-point, through precision-targeting—warrants a review of the U.S. struggle with piracy and hostage-taking in North Africa, which ended two centuries ago.

Raiding trade-caravans and hostage-taking for extracting ransom in Islam was started by Prophet Muhammad. Having become powerful and secure after his relocation to Medina from Mecca in 622, Muhammad initiated Jihad or holy war in the form of raids of trade-caravans for earning livelihood for his community. In the first successful raid of a Meccan caravan at Nakhla in December 623, his brigands killed one of the attendants, took two of them captive, and acquired the caravan as “sacred” booty. The captives were ransomed to generate further revenue. Muhammad, later on, expanded this mode of Jihad to raiding non-Muslim communities around Arabia—for capturing their homes, properties and livestock, capturing their women and children as slaves often for ransoming and selling, and imposing extortional taxes—which sometimes involved mass-slaughter of the attacked victims.

Battle of Broken Hill Logo

The First Islamic Terrorist Attack on Australian Soil

On January 1, 1915 two Broken Hill men, both former camel drivers, armed themselves with rifles, an homemade flag bearing Islamic insignia and a large supply of ammunition and launched a surprise attack on the Picnic Train about 3 kilometres outside Broken Hill.

The train carried about 1200 Broken Hill residents to Silverton where a picnic to celebrate the new year was to take place.

The two Muslim men, Gool Mohamed originally a Pashtun tribesman from Afghanistan and Mullah Abdullah from what is known today as Pakistan, decided to wage jihad against Australian infidels after Australia and the Ottoman Empire officially joined the opposite sides in the WWI.

Alhambra - GazelleHow often in conversation with a Muslim, do they quote Spain as the crowning achievement of Islam, where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in harmony for about 800 years?

And when you mention the killings and massacres, you are told that the Spanish Inquisition was much worse.
This is a misconception, since the Inquisition in Spain was responsible for only between 4,000 and 5,000 lives. [1]

Yet in 1066AD, in a single day, muslims murdered over 4,000 Jews because Vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela had risen to a position greater than them, and of course, this upset the Muslim sensitivities. [2]

Decisive Victory for the West

At this time of year, it is timely to remember one of the greatest victories of the west against the Islamic world. On the 7th October in 1571, Don Juan and the Holy League, led by Admiral Doria, defeated the larger Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto, saving Europe from the Turks and militant Islam. The Holy League was a coalition of different armies - of the Republic of Venice, the Papacy (under Pope Pius V), Spain (including Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and some others.

Jerusalem - Coat of ArmsWhy do Muslims insist that Jerusalem is their Holy City?
When Mohamed and his faithful followers moved from Mecca to Medina, they found themselves among three Jewish tribes/clans (BANU-L-NADIR, BANU KAINUKA and BANU KURAIZA)  which settled there some time after their expulsion from their homeland and also living there were  two Arab, pagan tribes.

Mohammed, who at this stage needed more followers, decided to win those tribes over and convert them to his newly invented religion.

Islam was yet not as fully developed as we know it today, and Mohammed was still having his sessions with Allah (the Medina period revelations).
