Laurie Ferguson asks

E-mail Print PDF
Tariq Ramadan is due to give lectures on Islam at a conference sponsored by the Queensland government. It is entitled ‘The Challenges and Opportunities of Islam in theHow High? West: The Case of Australia’ and is being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Bank, Brisbane on March 3-5, 2008. And now we learn that the bright bushy tailed Laurie Ferguson, the new federal Labor Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs will introduce Ramadan to the conference audience. No doubt it will be in mellifluous tones of mateship, and he will be clueless as to what significant groups in Australia think of a man who has donated money to Hamas (‘I didn’t know it was Hamas’ says this man disingenuously, who apparently holds a doctorate). Of course, the Jewish community has expressed legitimate concern about Ramadan’s visit. For although Ramadan says all the right things about not supporting terrorists and wanting a state of Israel (when it suits him), most of his Muslim associates are those who DO support terrorism and DO want to eliminate Israel. And the ‘one state’ solution he proposes, is dangerously utopian but fools many. Rebecca Weisser writes:
Ramadan says that resistance is a key concept and that he is promoting Islamic socialism. In his book Western Muslims and the Future of Islam, Ramadan says global capitalism and neo-liberal economics must be resisted. He says he will respect Western laws only up to a point. "I will abide by the laws, but only insofar as the laws don't force me to do anything against my religion ... If any given society should take this right away, I will resist and fight that society," he has said in a recorded speech. (source)
Paul BermanIt all sounds nice from a distance but in reality it is a  justification for tyranny, masquerading behind appeals to western ‘freedom of religion’, Ramadan weaves a dangrous double message according to  US journalist Paul Berman, who has written a lengthy though excellent critique of Ramadan in ‘The New Republic’. He says of Ramadan’s double dealing:
The first message condemns terrorism. The second message lavishes praise on the theoreticians of terrorism
You can view the article HERE .

Berman outlines Ramadan’s mastery of the double message, of assuaging fears, while alluding to and supporting the purveyors of fear, in his books, talks, conference appearances and interviews. He can keep academics enthralled, woo Time magazine and of course weave the likes of Laurie Ferguson around his little finger. As regards this skilful deceptive double-dealing, Richard Kerbaj of the Australian reports:

Australia/Israel Jewish Affairs Council executive director Colin Rubenstein… attacked the Swiss-born Professor Ramadan, who lives in Europe, for pandering to Islamic extremists. "Tariq Ramadan is a problematic figure skilled at projecting moderation to Western audiences, while engaging in apologetics for various forms of Islamist extremism, including terrorist attacks and conspiracy theories about 9/11," he said.  (source)
Even some Muslims are worried about Ramadan’s visit. And that is saying something. Ameer Ali, advisor to John Howard on Islam, has also expressed concern about his visit. Now here is a rare insight - a Muslim picking up of the ‘spin’ his Muslim brother will use on Western audiences. Good on Ameer Ali for being so frank in this regard:

Dr Ali said it was a common problem among Arabic scholars such as Professor Ramadan to alter their messages for different audiences. (source)

And of course Ramadan will tailor his message for the likes of Laurie Ferguson, who will not have a skerrick’s chance of resisting the Islamic charm offensive, which it must be noted, did not fool all of the people all of the time.  Kerbaj of ‘The Australian’ continues

Ameer Ali
Even Ameer Ali, a great supporter and promoter of Hezbollah, thinks that Tariq Ramadan might be just too much for Australia to handle

Professor Ramadan was refused entry into France in 1995 after he was accused of having links to an Algerian Islamist, but the ban was lifted the following year. He was also banned by Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Egypt "after he suggested a moratorium on Sharia law, in particular corporal punishment, stonings and beheadings", according to the Guardian newspaper.  He has been accused of playing down terrorist campaigns, including the September 11 attacks and the 2005 London bombings, as "interventions".  (source)
.
When asked by Sarkhozy in 2003, whether he opposed the stoning of women, Ramadan could not give a straight answer and squirmed in his seat as Sarkhozy pressed the question, watched by millions of viewers. Some feminists groups in France woke up to him after that and realised he may not be all that he appears to be. AS Berman notes

For these of you who can understand FrenchNicolas Sarkozy Vs Tariq Ramadan
Uploaded by Generation_Sarkozy

Caroline Fourest's Frère Tariq , or Brother Tariq, which appeared in 2004, has been the most influential--an angry book, alarmed, energetic in tabulating the naïve tropes and clichés of the French press, indignant at the journalists who keep falling for the same manipulations, indignant at the progressives who view Ramadan as progressive. (source)

With western audiences, Ramadan rather avoids discussion of the fact that his grandfather Hassan al-BannaBor Tariq was the founder of the The Muslim Brotherhood, a fundamentalist organisation that has been accused of a string of assassinations in Egypt and has given rise to radical offshoots such as Hamas. One of the Muslim Brotherhood's most famous members, the executed Egyptian writer Sayyid Qutb, has greatly influenced Osama bin Laden. But it gives him some authority with his Muslim audiences and he does not shy away from mentioning it to them.  (reference)

But none of the concerns of Jews, Muslims, Christians, ex Muslims, victims of Islamic persecution, feminists, secular humanists, Buddhists and Hindus would worry Laurie Ferguson one bit. He’s a nice simple fellow, who no doubt feels a ‘friendly blokey manner’ will win the day. He will no doubt be taken for a long ride by his Muslim handlers, and will be wined and dined and feted by petrodollars. Or perhaps Australians will do the wining and dining as it turns out that the Queensland government is contributing $50,000 for the conference which, while entitled‘The Challenges and Opportunities of Islam in the West: The Case of Australia’, is really a front for how to soften up the west for more Islamic infiltration and Shariah law. His Islamic Charm Offensive is really an attempt to spread an anti democratic, anti-Semitic, anti western fundamentalist message. But as usual, some will be fooled and ask “How high do I jump?

History - Violent Jihad

Australians celebrate and revere Anzac Day on April 25th each year in remembrance of our brave soldiers who fought in two great world wars to secure our freedom. Every Australian identifies with the slogan “lest we forget” and in services held around the country people reflect on the battles and men who died to secure our freedom. Yet across the world in France, there is one remarkable battle which helped form the Europe we know today and allowed the development of civilization based on Judeo Christian principles. This one famous battle has become known as the battle of Tours and effectively stopped the Muslim advance into Europe. After the death of Mohammed in 632AD, Muslim armies exploded out of the Arabian peninsula to conquer much of the Middle East, expanding across north Africa. From there they crossed into Spain in 711AD and eventually controlled much of al-Andalus by 715AD. It was the victory at Tours by Charles Martel that stemmed the tide and eventually the Muslim marauders were expelled from Spain in 1492 when the last outpost at Granada fell to King Ferdinand of Spain.

Perhaps some readers might be interested to know that January 28 is considered a feast day among Catholics – actually 2 feast days are celebrated on the same day – one is of ST Thomas Aquinas, the great medieval theologian and philosopher who adapted Aristotle to the western Judeo-Christian worldview. . It is also the feast day of a lesser known person – St Peter Nolasco, the great ransomer of captives from the Muslims.

Barbary Corsair
Somalian Islamic Pirates & Lessons from History

The dramatic rescue of the American cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips from the hands of Somalian Islamic pirates by the U.S. Navy—killing three pirates, holding him hostage at gun-point, through precision-targeting—warrants a review of the U.S. struggle with piracy and hostage-taking in North Africa, which ended two centuries ago.

Raiding trade-caravans and hostage-taking for extracting ransom in Islam was started by Prophet Muhammad. Having become powerful and secure after his relocation to Medina from Mecca in 622, Muhammad initiated Jihad or holy war in the form of raids of trade-caravans for earning livelihood for his community. In the first successful raid of a Meccan caravan at Nakhla in December 623, his brigands killed one of the attendants, took two of them captive, and acquired the caravan as “sacred” booty. The captives were ransomed to generate further revenue. Muhammad, later on, expanded this mode of Jihad to raiding non-Muslim communities around Arabia—for capturing their homes, properties and livestock, capturing their women and children as slaves often for ransoming and selling, and imposing extortional taxes—which sometimes involved mass-slaughter of the attacked victims.

Battle of Broken Hill Logo

The First Islamic Terrorist Attack on Australian Soil

On January 1, 1915 two Broken Hill men, both former camel drivers, armed themselves with rifles, an homemade flag bearing Islamic insignia and a large supply of ammunition and launched a surprise attack on the Picnic Train about 3 kilometres outside Broken Hill.

The train carried about 1200 Broken Hill residents to Silverton where a picnic to celebrate the new year was to take place.

The two Muslim men, Gool Mohamed originally a Pashtun tribesman from Afghanistan and Mullah Abdullah from what is known today as Pakistan, decided to wage jihad against Australian infidels after Australia and the Ottoman Empire officially joined the opposite sides in the WWI.

Alhambra - GazelleHow often in conversation with a Muslim, do they quote Spain as the crowning achievement of Islam, where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in harmony for about 800 years?

And when you mention the killings and massacres, you are told that the Spanish Inquisition was much worse.
This is a misconception, since the Inquisition in Spain was responsible for only between 4,000 and 5,000 lives. [1]

Yet in 1066AD, in a single day, muslims murdered over 4,000 Jews because Vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela had risen to a position greater than them, and of course, this upset the Muslim sensitivities. [2]

History - Imperialism

Decisive Victory for the West

At this time of year, it is timely to remember one of the greatest victories of the west against the Islamic world. On the 7th October in 1571, Don Juan and the Holy League, led by Admiral Doria, defeated the larger Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto, saving Europe from the Turks and militant Islam. The Holy League was a coalition of different armies - of the Republic of Venice, the Papacy (under Pope Pius V), Spain (including Naples, Sicily and Sardinia), the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Savoy, the Knights Hospitaller and some others.

History - Stolen Heritage

Jerusalem - Coat of ArmsWhy do Muslims insist that Jerusalem is their Holy City?
When Mohamed and his faithful followers moved from Mecca to Medina, they found themselves among three Jewish tribes/clans (BANU-L-NADIR, BANU KAINUKA and BANU KURAIZA)  which settled there some time after their expulsion from their homeland and also living there were  two Arab, pagan tribes.

Mohammed, who at this stage needed more followers, decided to win those tribes over and convert them to his newly invented religion.

Islam was yet not as fully developed as we know it today, and Mohammed was still having his sessions with Allah (the Medina period revelations).
