Thick, Creamy and 100% Halal

E-mail Print PDF

The next time you purchase a plastic container full of delicious fruit flavoured yogurt processed by the award winning Dairy Farmers, please have a quick look at the ingredients.

Thick&Creamy
Thick & Creamy 100% Australian

Apart from the usual ingredients such as concentrated milk, sugar, fruit and the like, you might also notice HALAL(1) gelatine. Gelatine as you probably know is a colourless, nearly tasteless and odorless substance, which is commonly, used in food, pharmaceutical,  and cosmetic manufacturing.

Halal Yogurt

...and 100% Halal

Gelatine is a protein extracted usually from the connective tissues of animals such as cows. Now, HALAL in this context means simply that the cattle from which this protein was extracted was slaughtered according to Islamic law – Sharia. (2)

You may wonder at this stage why I have an issue with Sharia compliant gelatine and so I have to explain that I do not have a problem with Halal gelatine per se  but with the fact that I purchased my yogurt in a Coles supermarket, from a shelf, which was NOT marked HALAL PRODUCTS.

There are two reasons why I have a problem with that. The first reason is the way in which the animals are slaughtered by Muslim butchers. Halal slaughter is unnecessarily cruel and highly offensive to those concerned about the welfare of animals. Oh, I understand that there are religious reasons for it and I respect other people’s religious feelings and customs. I strongly object however when I have to participate in these customs without my consent or even knowledge (most people do not read labels).

You see you can always observe  Kosher meat products clearly labelled. They may have a special place, a shelf in a supermarket in some areas where there is a larger Jewish community but they are not sold as the main-stream merchandise, without appropriate signs.

Halal gelatine, however, has found its way into my diet by stealth.

Secondly, I object to Sharia and I object to this law being introduced to Australia, by the back door, by stealth. Some people may argue that it is not a big deal, – that it’s a harmless exercise.
Simple economics you may say - instead of producing Halal food just for 1.5% of Muslims, it is so much easier to feed the entire population with standard food formulas.

Is it?

You may probably know that there are 5 different schools of Sharia and these schools may vary when it comes to some rulings but they all have their main rules in common and among others they all prescribe DEATH as the punishment for apostates, homosexuals and female adulterers. All of these schools agree that the husband may scourge (this is the literal translation from the Qu’ran)  his wives and most of these schools recommend female circumcision.

Some banks in Australia already run Sharia compliant financial services, some universities already provide Muslim-Only toilets on their premises and now, it appears, we are to consume Halal compliant yogurt, without being told in advance.

Well, I am not buying it – literally. For me it means boycott of ALL Dairy Farmers goodies.

The Australian Consumers Association and democracy supporters should hear alarm bells ringing here and protect the citizens in this country.

1 Australian meat industry is methodically taken over by Islamist interest and influenced by Islamic law (Sharia).

The Word Halal is an Arabic word meaning `lawful' and is one of the key religious terms used in the holy Qur'an. For meat to be identified as Halal, a Muslim in accordance with the requirements of Islamic law must slaughter the animal.
Muslim consumers purchasing Australian meat must be confident that the meat they purchase is not only safe and wholesome but has also been slaughtered and handled in accordance with Islamic law and therefore considered to be Halal meat. The Muslim market is very important to Australian meat industry and each Halal processor has documented procedures to ensure that Halal slaughtering and processing requirements is implemented at all stages of production.

Australia is renown for its commitment to the strict standard required for producing Halal meat and meat products, and along with the involvement and expertise of the Islamic Organisations registered to supervise and certify the production process, Australia is recognised as the world leader in this field. (source ).

Introduction To Halal
Islam is not a mere religion. It is a way of life with rules and manners governing every facet of life. Since food is an important part of daily life, food laws carry a special significance.

Muslims are expected to eat for survival, to maintain good health and not to live for eating. In Islam, eating is considered to be a matter of worship of God like prayer, fasting, charitable donations and other religious activities.
This is compounded by the fact that Australian manufacturers are either unaware of Muslims requirements or choose to ignore them as insignificant.

It is therefore in this situation that the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils is endeavoring to establish the highest standards in the sanctioning of foods as Halal. (source)
2. Mamy people find Halal slaughter of animals unreasonably cruel and definetely do not wish be associated with this practice.

Muslims only eat meat from ritually slaughtered animals whose blood has left their bodies while dying.
It would be a good thing to sedate the animals before cutting their throats. In that case it takes 10 to 20 seconds before the animal is completely unconscious as a result of a lack of oxygen.

With non-ritual slaughter the animal is shot (with a shooting mask). This severely damages the central nervous system (large brains), but death is not instantaneous. The heart keeps on beating. The throat is cut and the animal is left to bleed to death. It is European government regulation that the animals should be dead at the onset of slaughter. (source )

Roland, this is indeed Islam by stealth.

At the first Halal Trade Fair held in Melbourne last year, there was a halal conference attended by key speakers from “halal-compliant countries Malaysia , Singapore and Australia.”

One speaker was Tawfique Chowdhury, founder of Al-Kauthar Institute, Australia, described as
an Islamic education institute “offering the sorts of qualifications traditionally found in the Muslim world in a Western setting.”
http://www.alkauthar.org/

Just a few quotes:
On the day of Judgement, the most welcoming and refreshing sight to them, like an oasis in the desert, will be the pond of AlKauthar where the people of the truth will be separated from the people of falsehood.
Like AlKauthar, we envisage to separate the truth from the falsehood and firmly establish the Ummah on the Qur’an and the Sunnah… we believe that students graduating from AlKauthar will, like the cups carrying the beautiful water, be able to carry the magnificence of this religion to the rest of the world.

AlKauthar will try to demonstrate the beauty and the great relevance of Islam today as it was 1400 years ago and how it will continue to be so in the future.

The size of the Prize
…the number of Muslims is expected to increase to approximately 380,000 or more by the year 2006. We currently have 24 primary schools and secondary schools (source: AFIC) but almost no tertiary Institute for Muslims to advance their Islamic knowledge. AlKauthar Institute envisions that the demand will continue to grow exponentially as the Muslim population rises. With the help of Allah, we plan to compete for this tremendous reward in educating the Muslims about their religion and help empower them to spread it to the world.
The reward of partaking in a venture that aims to disseminate religious information:
• It helps in dissemination, protection and preservation of Allah’s religion.
• It supports the obligation of preaching this religion, which is a requirement set by the Shariah upon all Muslims, and especially upon those who live in non-Muslim societies.

Halal is an integral part of this expansionist plan.

All I can say is "buyer beware". Look at the ingredients in the products you buy, complain to Safeway, Coles etc every time you see halal creeping into your supermarket.

Otherwise, you will be accepting Islamism, where non-believers who refuse to accept Islam are consigned to inferior (dhimmi) status!! Or else killed!!!

Roland, the questions marks were supposed to be quotation marks - don't know what happened there. Still, it doesn't really alter the sense of it.

Trouble with halal, people think it's no big deal, what are you making a fuss about. They just don't realise the implications. It will take a massive publicity campaign for the public to wake up, and that means money.

Unfortunately, unlike the Australian Islamists, who have endless money from their oil-rich Saudi and other Arab backers, those fighting to preserve democracy are armed only with TRUTH, which comes off poorly compared with the money-fuelled PROPAGANDA of Islamists and their leftist enablers.

I can't believe it! I went into Safeway to grab some groceries and just quickly checked some ingredients lists in the dairy cabinet. In all, I was there for 10 minutes, and I discovered the following had halal gelatine in them:

Cream
1) Dairygood Bulla Light Sour Cream.
2) Paul's sour Light Cream.
3)Weightwatchers Extra Light Sour Cream.
4)Bulla Thickened Light Cream.

Yoghurts
1)Nestle Diet Yoghurt
2)Ski D'Lite
3)Yoplait Lite
4)Yoplait No Fat
5) Vaalia Low Fat

This is appalling. Muslims make up about 1.5% of the population and yet they are dictating what we eat, without our knowledge and consent. This has to stop. Not only is halal slaughter cruel and inhumane, but it is part of a barbaric way of life which reduces people to servitude.

Come on everyone - time to petition your supermarkets and food manufacturers. For starters, how about a demonstration outside supermarkets every weekend?

Is there some way we can lobby the Consumers Association to protest the fact that the public has been hoodwinked about these ingredients?

Dear Cassandra and WL,
I am indeed planning some actions against this blatant disregard to our beliefs and freedoms.

Oh, whre are the pro-choice champions when you need them?

Where are PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) when you need them?

They and the other animal welfare organisations should be speaking up against Islamic animal cruelty. They seem very bold in protesting against other bad treatment of animals. Surely they're not scared of Muslims.

Gemma,
PETA claims that true Islam condemns HALAL slaughter and that this naughty practice was hijacked by by not true Muslims.

Hello Roland.
I'm with you 100%. I too will boycott all Dairy Farmers products and those listed by Cassandra.

Now for a quiz! Was Ned Kelly a Muslim?

In Legana, Tasmania, a company named 'Red Kellys' produces a range of gourmet salad dressings, marinades, dessert sauces. On their labels, they profess to being 'A PROUD TASMANIAN COMPANY' (their capitals) and include details about Ned Kelly on the label. The label also displays an Arabic word. Underneath it is the word 'Halal'. Proudly Australian? I think not.

From the website: www.halalcertificate.com the meaning of the word Halal is "permitted, allowed, authorised, approved, sanctioned, lawful, legitimate or licit." When used in relation to food or drink in any form whatsoever it means that it is permitted and fit for consumption by muslims.
For a product to be 'halal certified' it must be produced under the inspection and evaluation of Muslim professionals trained in both Islamic religious laws and in production practises. Even products produced by Muslim-owned companies require independent, trained, outside inspectors. Much more info. can be accessed from: www.afic.com.au (Aust. Federation of Islamic Councils}

The dressings etc. do not contain meat products so, presumably, ALL of Red Kellys products are prepared, processed, transported etc. according to Islamic law.

I will scan two labels and send them to your website - hopefully! If I can manage to do it.

Regards.

Red Rose,
Thank so much for this info.
In fact, inspired by you, I think I start a new section - Don't buy HALAL (Black list of products and companies).
Please do send us us all information you can get and scanned images.
This is much appreciated.

Paul of Dallas Victoria: ...
As I understand it, Halal meat also has to be slaughtered, handled and processed by, or under the supervision of muslims, although it depends on who you talk to, as there doesn't seem to be a standard opinion in Islam. Surely this alone constitutes a massive infringement of Equal Opportunity Employment laws.

Paul,
I am not sure about the exact agreement between our Aussie meat board and Halal Meat Inc.
Something happened there after our shipload of life sheep travelled around the world for months.

I'd call it extortion, but of courseour pollies wish to help the farmers so they are prepared to pay the 'protection' money for their HALAL seal of approval as well as to compromise our legal system for the same reason.

What's the diffrence betweeen this deal and AWB paying off Sadam?

Don't just stop at yogurt - check out Cadbury chocolates - they carry a 'halal' symbol - so tiny you can hardly see it - but I checked their website and emailed them some months back and yes - most of their chocolates are HALAL!!!!
Check http://www.cadbury.com.au/site...?pageId=36
Also FAQs at Q4.. http://www.cadbury.com.au/site...?pageId=58
I have been researching this - but it is the facing Mecca and praying over the animal whilst it is killed that is a REAL problem!!!
