Durie addresses some of the most profound challenges of our time….Freedom, Islam and ‘how humanity can live with dignity under conditions of humiliation and inferiority’ (p231) such as dhimmitude. He implies that non-Muslim perceptions based on political correctness and appeasement are inaccurate and confusing.
Referring to the official teaching of Islam, he urges us to wake up, inform ourselves, confront deeply held worldviews of Muslims and non-Muslims alike and ‘speak up about matters that affect us all’; whereby confusion and untruth can be dispelled giving way to ‘truth and reason’.
While Muslims themselves may differ in their understanding of Islam, it nevertheless becomes clear as Durie unpacks Islamic doctrine such as dawah, taquiya, abrogation, and specifically dhimmitude; that these are notions that any practicing Muslim would be familiar with, as duties of faith.
This information together with a brief overview of Muhammad’s life and
teaching in relation to unbelievers, would immediately trigger any non-Muslim to ’get’ why it is crucial for ‘unbelievers’ to concern themselves with what Islam teaches about them.
Truthful, accurate knowledge of one another is essential if freedom is to be maintained and any healing is to take place.
Not only is Durie an internationally renowned academic, scholar, theologian and human rights activist, but he is also a local pastor of a Victorian Anglican Church, hence merging the global and local, in a brave ‘out there’ way. An example for us all. Durie’s integrity resonates throughout the book.
His vast depth and breadth of experience and knowledge of Islam, together with his passionate commitment to truth, freedom and peace, makes this book essential reading for anyone who wants to live in a free peace-loving world.

It's good to see a cleric at last in the image of the Archbishop of Rheims who joined Roland or Orlando in driving the Moorish menace from France. Two many priests and ministers ask their flocks to show empathy, compassion and Christian charity towards a religion that would be happy to impose a jizya and demand zakat without any thought of reciprocation or gratitude. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams is a case in point, who can see no harm in 'limited sharia law' as if that is possible. Archbishop Jensen of Sydney is just as bad. The Catholic Cardinal Pell, and even the Pope, are more wary, but unfortunately not as frank Rev. Dr Mark Durie.

In my Catholic religion -- Catholic -- many saints have accused themselves as "the worst of people." Why have Catholic saints done this? To put it succinctly, they were humble, a virtue that tends to enlighten minds. These saints recognized their faults, imperfections and sins, which were then corrected. Seeing their shortcomings, these saints saw themselves as "the worst of people."
On the other hand, the fanatical, evil Muslims, the most arrogant, obnoxious, ostentatious creatures on the face of the earth, classify themselves as "the best of people." These fanatics, the haughty Muslims, are devoured by unjustifiable pride, which is a cardinal or capital sin in Christian theology.
Pride is an inordinate love of one's own excellence, and excessive self esteem. Unjustifiable pride, a vice, is the downfall of many. From unjustifiable pride arise vanity, hypocrisy, and obstinacy in sin. Is it not this conceitedness that describes fanatical Muslims, the Muslims who fall to the ground and point their ugly hinders at passersby? It is.
The true Muslims are the most arrogant creatures ever created by the True God. Not seeing their arrogance, these creatures, those who enjoy pointing their ugly hinders at people, describe themselves as "the best of people." Five times, these selfish buffons fall to the ground and point their ugly hinders at people, and, then, chant their incantations to the Muslim god, Satan, who keeps them in the dark. Why do these Muslims think they are "the best of people"? To put it simply, these Muslims are haughty. Haughtiness clouds the intellect, and that is why true Muslims continue to live in sin.

Greg, the Pope of Rome would like to say more, but when he does criticize Islamism, the evil Muslims will murder a few priests and a few nuns. It was very much the same situation during the Second World War when Pope Pius XII reigned. Adolph Hitler was brutal against Christianity, and especially against the Catholic Church. Hitler contemplated kidnapping Pope Pius XII, but didn't carry out his plan.
However, we little peons can criticize Islamism all we want. Our voices don't carry as much weight as the voices of the Big Boys, but we nevertheless do carry some weight.

It is a must read for all Australians and a credit to the Anglican church who I hope will widely support this book. Through my contacts within the Anglican church I am offering to supply multiple copies to be handed out to anyone who wants them.

Many Australians still think this belongs to history. But it doesn’t, and is growing all around the world.
For example, Channel 9 and ACA ran a segment on Tuesday night on Gold Coast tourism from the Middle East. Local councillor Susy Douglas describes Surfers Paradise as the ‘Mecca’ of Australia.
Mecca, Susy? Just try to do this in Mecca in Saudi Arabia (as you have done for Muslims).
1.Try to visit Mecca; sorry, you can’t because you are NOT a Muslim
2.Insist on a Bible in your hotel room (good luck with that)
3.Demand a LENT room in your hotel where you can observe Christianity
4.Demand special toilets and washrooms for Christians only
5.Demand special prayer rooms and churches when you visit
6.Ask for a pointer to Jerusalem in your hotel room
7.Demand pork products everywhere you eat

Islamic teachings have nothing in common with freedom and democracy - hence there being only one democracy in the Middle East (Israel). If you asked a Muslim if he will do something in the future, he will say, "Inshallah" (meaning God willing). These people have given away their freedom.
Ask a Muslim which comes first, Islam or democracy, and they will tell you Islam of course. Democracy is in direct contradiction to Islam and has no place in its teachings.
Geoff is absolutely correct when he compares the tolerance for us infidels in these Arabic countries. Kissing, holding hands, showing affection to a woman in public, a woman having her arms exposed, drinking water or eating during Ramadan will not be tolerated. So much for tolerance of OUR ways. yet in this country we tolerate their customs and habits and even make allowances for their differences - all in the name of multiculturalism.
Keep Australia beautiful and uniquely Australian and have any migrant swear unconditionally on oath to acknowledge our secular state and support democracy - over and above any religious belief.
Furthermore, make it clear that we will not tolerate whingers and claims of discrimination, if you the migrant, wants special treatment that separates you from society. Integrate or leave.

An excellent book.
I'd recommend it for all those readers, who wish to learn about Islam and have little or no previous background in this "area".
Once understood, the Islamic doctrine is mercilessly simple, but to begin to understand it is not.
It is because the concepts behind Islam are absolutely alien to most of the people.
Mar Durie's book explains these concepts with brutal clarity but without too much of a shock-treatment.

Some things that caught my attention in Mark Durie’s book.
P13. Female circumcision
There are 32 countries that practise this brutality to girls, and 29 of which belong to the OIC.
Who says FGM is NOT an Islamic thing? They are nearly ALL Islamic countries. Sharia strikes again!

In Chapter 3 starting on page 21, Mark gives a thorough review of how to become a Muslim, the Quran, the Hadiths, the six beliefs and 5 pillars, the Sira and the Tafsir (commentaries). He includes a discussion on abrogation.
The Infallibility Paradox
“Islam claims that the Quran is the direct word of Allah, yet it can’t be interpreted without the Hadith which were compiled hundreds of years later from man’s memories. The fact that hundreds of thousands of Hadith were collected and Bukhari selected about 7,000 is the game breaker”.
This fact alone means they have no more claim to the word of God than the Bible.

Many of us are bemused when we hear this cry from a Muslim who has just slaughtered infidels or one who has honour killed his wife. ‘I am the victim”.
The theological grounds are that conquest is liberation, so the infidel is deserving of attack if the enemies guilt is greater. Hence the Muslim response is to claim that a greater wrong was inflicted by Jews or Christians. This can even be applied to the Crusades even though Muslim imperialism can first. Marmaduke Pickthall in 1927 implied that the Turkish massacre of Armenians was due to previous mistreatment of Muslims at the hands of the Armenians. Twisted logic.

Every Muslim must sign a declaration called “remember the Khybar, Muslim?”
They must agree to pay a 50% tax on everything they earn while living in Australia.
If not, they are banned from entry, or get deported if they don’t pay the tax.

I believe Mark's book is at the apex of Australian writing on islam. His incisive mind and irrefutable research cut through so much of the murk and camouflage that surrounds discussion of islam and presents islam in its extremely disturbing, naked form.
Mark's graciousness shines through. This is no hate speech polemic, but a cry for the lost of islam as well as a complete demolition of some of islams contemporary lies.
This is a position I have had great difficulty coming to – and still struggle with - but my christian world view demands I see muslims as victims, even as they perpetrate horrors on non-muslims. Mark leaves a reader in no doubt as to the evil that masks itself behind islam.
I have just re-ordered; my 9th copy. I have no qualms at all in handing them out to customers and not a little pleasure in knowing I am helping to "spread the word".

I too can commend Mark's book.
I think the problem with Islam is that we see it through the perspective of our Judeo-Christian tradition and so come to the conclusion that it is a religion just like we are used to. We cannot comprehend it because its rules are so far outside our mindset that we refuse to believe them.
I would also recommend Mark Durie's earlier book, Revelation, which first helped me understand how different Islam was from Christianity. He explained about how Islam believes it is the first religion, even though it came long after Judaism and Christianity and that were are all originally Muslims. There was other useful information, such as the Muslim Jesus, Issa, and how Muslims don't observe the Ten Commandments, also how the term "Judeo-Christian" has been replaced by "Abrahamic" as a process of Islamisation. A very useful start to truly understanding the basis of Islam.

I've been looking in the bookshops and this book is not available in any of the shops. Nor is it available in my local library.
I don't understand why we cannot buy a book like this in Borders or Dymocks or the ABC Shop.

I read the book as soon as it was printed and thought it was excellent and have bought extra copies and given them as gifts to friends and aquaintances. It is a good book to pass on to those who don't quite 'get it ' yet about the threat of Islam. Mark Durie takes one step by step and explains it clearly and well.

I also love Mark Durie's book. I asked Mark how he resolved the Christian edict to 'love thy neighbour' with his extremely accurate writings on Islam ---his response was that as a Christian, he was required to tell the TRUTH.
Telling the truth about Islam is NOT an act of hatred or violence towards Muslims -- we, religious or not, wish Muslims would free themselves of this trully evil ideology which, when fully practised under sharia, poisons ALL life!
The deep tragedy is that many religious leaders DON'T tell the truth about Islam but act as agents of Islamization by lying about and promoting Islam.
As for the 'science' of the hadith --having read about this 'science' I can only laugh --it's so absurd, so insane, so breathtakingly stupid....yet Muslims believe it.
May Mark gather others who know Islam and have the courage to speak the truth and apply reason. A few brave, honourable people can change the world.
