Postcard from Londonistan (2)

E-mail Print PDF

I'm nearing the end of my stay in this once fair city. After only a few days I realised there's only one newspaper that is readable - The Times. The Guardian and The Independent are so far off the lunar left planet that they are mere parodies, and the tabloids are just sport and titillation, with the emphasis on the first syllable of the last word.Jonathan Sacks

Last Saturday's Times had an interesting article by Jonathan Sacks, which shows some people realise the parlous state into which once-Great Britain has descended. The title caught my eye;

Multiculturalism is a disaster
'Multiculturalism has run its course, and it is time to move on. It was a fine, even noble idea in its time. It was designed to make ethnic and religious minorities feel more at home, more appreciated and respected, and therefore better able to mesh with the larger society. It affirmed their culture. It gave dignity to difference....

But there has been a price to pay.... Multiculturalism has led not to integration but to segregation. It has allowed groups to live separately, with no incentive to integrate and every incentive not to. It was intended to promote tolerance. Instead the result has been….societies more abrasive, fractured and intolerant than they once were.

Liberal democracy is in danger. Britain is becoming a place where free speech is at risk, non-political institutions are becoming politicised, and a combination of political correctness and ethnic-religious separatism is eroding the graciousness of civil society. Religious groups are becoming pressure groups. Boycotts and political campaigns are infecting professional bodies. Culture is fragmenting into systems of belief in which civil discourse ends and reasoned argument becomes impossible... “

Well, I’ll drink to that – that is, if alcohol hasn’t been banned in Londonistan for fear of offending Muslim sensibilities. Funny how sensitive they are when it comes to themselves, but we’re not allowed to be sensitive to threats in their holy book to slice off our heads! Seems to me there’s an imbalance somewhere. But I digress…

David BellamySacks believes that concomitant with multiculturalism came 'the slow demise of morality itself, conceived as the moral bond linking individuals in the shared project of society' and that the starting point was 1961, when suicide ceased to be a crime, which he sees as 'the beginning of the end of England as a Christian country; that is, one in which Christian ethics was reflected in law.'

So is Sacks some Christian dude? No, surprisingly he is the Chief Rabbi of the UK. So why is he lamenting the demise of Christian ethics?
He believes that “when we lose moral consensus, morality is reduced to taste and is no longer a shared set of values holding society together. The result is 'all truth becomes subjective or relative' and 'political correctness, created to avoid stigmatising speech, becomes the supreme example of stigmatising speech….' the new tolerance is far less permissive than the old intolerance.”

He maintains society no longer depends on moral consensus and that morality is just a personal choice, with the result that “when there are no shared standards, there can be no conversation, and where conversation ends, violence begins.”
He ends with the warning “Without a national culture, there is no nation. There are merely people-in-proximity. Whether this is sufficient to generate loyalty, belonging and a sense of the common good is an open question.” (source )

Thought provoking words!

London streets are replete with free papers, taken by commuters and then carelessly tossed aside at the end of the journey, adding to the general air of disarray and decrepitude. One such journal is “London Lite”, which on 11 October ran an article ”Move to Dig up 350,000 at Cemetery” reporting that a third of a million bodies could be dug up from a historic East London cemetery in Mile End to make way for a new Muslim burial site. Environmentalist and TV broadcaster David Bellamy is leading calls for it to be kept as a wildlife haven and the graves protected, but it seems that Labour councillors, in accord with multicultural dogma, favour re-opening it as a multi-faith (read ultimately Muslim) site.

Market Place
No, it is not Mauretania, it's Walthamstow, a district of eastern London.

Also in London Lite, this time on October 24, came the news that a copy of the Koran has sold at Christie’s for a record L1,140,500. “Written in 1203, it is the earliest-known complete, dated Koran and is transcribed in gold.”

Hmm, considering it was written centuries after the noble Prophet’s revelations, it makes you wonder about the accuracy of the holy book. Still, what are a few centuries between zealots!

Another free paper is Australian Times .
In the 10th October edition, an opinion piece headed “From the colonies” by Chris Cain spoke some good old AussieShowing their commitment common sense. Admitting he was squeamish about things medical and didn’t like animals, he would never be a doctor or a vet. Nor would he work for a cigarette company as he had an ethical issue with smoking. He then detailed how  “some Muslim medical students are refusing to attend lectures or answer exam questions on alcohol-related or sexually transmitted diseases because learning to treat the diseases apparently conflicts with their faith…Some medical students have even refused to treat patients of the opposite sex… Boots and Sainsbury’s allow staff the right to refuse service to customers after the pill ‘for ethical reasons’, with the latter permitting Muslim checkout operators to refuse to handle customers’ alcohol purchases on religious grounds”

Cain concludes, with true Aussie delicacy “I totally respect a person’s right to express their faith. But no one is asking these checkout operators to open the Smirnoff and have a swig… and no one is asking these medical students to shag the patients with STIs after a bender. There is a choice here, but shirking your professional responsibilities isn’t among them.”

Well said! Makes me proud to be Australian.

I simply cannot believe it's happening in Britain.
Well, I suppose destruction of a tolerant culture doesn't take as long as building one.

Cassandra, believe me you have only touched the tip of the iceburg here.

The labour party has banned it's ministers from using the word Islam or Muslim in connection with terrorism, new laws have been brought in like those in Victoria gagging critics of religions.

How can a populace fight back when its own police, lawmakers, media and leaders are against it.

There is a lot of anger building up in the UK general population.

I am starting to think that the UK is finished, when your own leaders will not even name the enemy and forbid you from discussing it, then what hope is there.

There is one of two things going to happen here, either the UK will continue its steady slide into Dhimmitude, or there is going to be a very brutal civil war, and I think that applies to France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Norway as well.

Not a pretty picture.

Agrhhhh. Is this coming to Oz as well?
I hope we can stop it before it turns ugly.

Now, this is good:

Multiculturalism has led not to integration but to segregation. It has allowed groups to live separately, with no incentive to integrate and every incentive not to.

It took a few years to realize this simple fact - parallel universes do not mix!

I suppose the only solution now is to release Islam on the whole society.
This will integrate everybody for sure.

There is nothing wrong with accepting and interacting with other cultures etc.
It's the way this whole creation called multiculturalism was introduced and implemented (if we could use this term here).
Just dumping people in the middle of something they didn't and they couldn't possible understand., creating parallel realities etc.
Nothing, nothing has been as divisive in Oz as "multiculturalism".

Dan, yes it is unbelievable that a once-great nation should have destroyed its culture so rapidly.

Paul, you're right, what I write about is just the tip of an enormous iceberg. As you say, it's the government which has gagged free speech and been complicit in subverting democracy. I believe most normal (i.e. not loony) Brits are horrified by what's going on, but feel powerless to do anything, so just get on with their life. I have a feeling that there will be a reaction, and as you say, it could well be a violent one.

Dude, Swallow,

I think Sacks is speaking for many when he decries multiculturalism. I believe this may be a bit of a turning point, as he's dared to break the taboo against criticising multiculturalism. Just wait for the cries of "racist" from the usual suspects - but I don't think most people buy it any more. The "racist" and "Islamophobic" labels have been used too often, usually to excuse intolerably racist and violent behaviour by Islamofascists.

I am convinced all the precursors that traditionally accompany civil war are at play here.
Now it's just a matter of waiting to see how much a koala can bear.

Dear sports, here's a link to Frontpage Mag that kind of shows how many Muslims really feel about the West, Islam and so on. All the best from Colonel Neville.
